What does it take to make you happy?

I think happiness is based on a feeling of self worth. This is, of course, different for everyone but if you are bored with life and see nothing of interest in yourself I can't imagine anything making you happy.

There is a lot of pressure on young people to look a certain way or think a certain way. If it does not occur naturally in them they'll never be happy pretending. The internet has exacerbated this and many people fall into the trap of pretense. Facial augmentation apps are just the tip of the iceberg. Creating false personas in sites such as this is another part of it.

But this is not really new. Body image issues existed long before social media. My ex was a classic case. She was obsessed with what she looked like. Every new wrinkle was a catastrophe.

Aging gracefully was never going to be easy for her. My second wife was as cute as a bunny but her looks were not on her list of worries. She wore no makeup, never wore high heels, didn't dye her hair, and didn't give a shit what people thought of her looks. And everyone she met loved her and still do. She was consummately happy. Diametrically opposite my ex.

Nope. It's not about fame and fortune. It's about being satisfied with yourself.
