The ONE WORLD League (1WL) will play matches on a fixed number of boards.

We will offer matches at three different levels: OPEN rating, UNDER 1800 and UNDER 1600. Clubs are free to join at any or all of these levels.

At each level, we will offer two divisions, one for teams with 25 players per match and one for teams with 50 players per match.

If you're able to play on at least 25 (50) boards, you can register one team for the OPEN25 (50) division. If you have already played larger matches, you might choose to register in the U1800 or U1600 levels as well, allowing members of your club to be more active at a competitive level.

LEAGUE DESCRIPTION

The ONE WORLD League (1WL) aims to promote fair and healthy competition between chess clubs with a minimum of rules and regulations. The League offers opportunities for clubs to play at any or all of the following levels: OPEN rating, UNDER 1800, UNDER 1600.

It also offers opportunities for promotion by including multiple divisions at each rating level. Clubs that succeed in their division can move up to a higher division (requiring more players per match) for the next season, allowing them to grow and encounter new challenges. Moreover, every game counts since the total number of accumulated points is used as the principal tie-breaker in divisional play.

In these ways, the League’s structure is flexible and can easily accommodate the strength and continued growth of many different clubs.

REGISTRATION OF CLUBS
The One World League is open to any club that provides links to three matches demonstrating its ability to organize a team of at least twenty-five (25) players.

Each club should indicate the division(s) it would like to participate in:

OPEN rating (OPEN)
UNDER 1800 (U18)
UNDER 1600 (U16)

Since all divisions will play simultaneously, teams should consider carefully how many (and which) divisions they are prepared to play in.

An admin of each participating club must join the ONE WORLD League. It is the admins' responsibility to track relevant forums and act on requests involving their club. It is highly recommended that each club be represented by a second admin to share responsibilities for their club.

Decisions about registration will be made by the admins of the ONE WORLD League.

LEAGUE STRUCTURE
At each rating level, there will be multiple divisions. We currently plan for the ONE WORLD League to start with two open, two U1800, and two U1600 divisions. At each level, one division will require 50 players per match while the other division will require 25 players per match. Please note that these are fixed numbers – matches will be played with either 50 players (no more) or with 25 players (no more) depending on the division.

In each division, up to nine (9) teams will play a round robin tournament (rounds will start on the first day of a month). At the end of each season, the top third of each division will promote to a higher division (if available) and the bottom third will relegate to a lower division (if available).

As the League grows, new divisions can be created, for example a division for clubs with 75 players per match. If a division has more than nine teams, it will be divided into two parallel subdivisions.

MATCH CHALLENGES AND REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS
Once pairings are announced (in the middle of a month), either club can initiate a challenge within three (3) days, using the defined Match Name provided in the forum. The challenged team will have three (3) more days to accept the challenge (or to send its own challenge in the event that the original challenge was incorrect).

The link and/or screenshot of the match – or the link and/or screenshot of the challenge, in case of difficulties – must be provided in the division’s forum.

A club that has issued a correct challenge that has been declined or not accepted within three (3) days can claim a win by providing a link and/or screenshot of its correct challenge in the division’s forum.

We urge admins to avoid losses by forfeit and to avoid creation of double matches. We also urge admins to avoid unnecessary disputes over match challenges. The ONE WORLD League firmly believes that matches should be won on the boards.

RESULTS AND TIE-BREAKS
A match will be scored as follows: 1 point for a win, 0 for a loss, and 0.5 for a draw.

If a team does not reach the required number of players by the start of a match, the opposing club will receive 2 points for each open board in the match.

Within each division, clubs will be ranked by the number of matches won. The total number of points accumulated by each club at the end of the season will serve as the tie-breaker (matches won by forfeit count half of the possible points plus an half one).

Any situation not covered by these rules will be decided at the discretion of the ONE WORLD League's admins.
