JAYS2525 (966) wins his first game in style against Eborman (1387). This is the biggest upset so far. See the checkmate here Eborman (Mike) is well known to regular Vivaldi members and we know he'll be back!

Stephenb1985 pulls off an impressive checkmate against his fellow countryman AmeerPawn. Stephen only joined in January but his stats show that he knows what he's doing. You can review their game here and see that despite 2 blunders the checkmate is a nice one!

With almost perfect timing and 1 day to go before the Spring tournament starts - Ieuan Ward (NM Sacbutt) defeats Michael Page (Mickyp103). After Ieuan won their first game it was neck and neck in the second until it was decided with a draw by agreement. Many thanks to the 64 players who took part. It is looking like the Spring tournament will be our biggest to date with 140+ likely to make a start.

Today is a sad day as Peter Large, our friend, has decided to leave Chess.com. What makes it sad is why he has made this decision. I will always be grateful to him as he was the first titled player to support my tournaments and give me advice and encouragement. I wish him well. He posted this message on his home page: I'm ok thanks. I'm packing in daily chess, because its taking up too much time (and there's so much cheating). I'm going back to playing otb.
