Challenge a player above you in the league. At the end of the game post the result on the Results thread. If the player with the lower league position wins, then that player moves up the league, and the other moves down.

Detailed Rules

Challenges

1. A player can challenge any other player in the league at any time.

2. A challenge is made by posting on WHO and by setting up a challenge in chess.com. The challenge should be named to make it clear that a league game is being played. If more than one challenge is made to the same player, then the one appearing first on WHO takes precedent.

3. Players may accept as many challenges as they choose and play as many league games simultaneously as they choose.

4. A player may only refuse a challenge under the following circumstances:

a. If he has already accepted, and is currently playing, a challenge from another player.

b. If he has already completed a league game against the challenger in the last 7 days.

c. If the challenger is more than 4 places below in the league.

d. If the challenger has an average time per move in online chess of more than 3 hours.

e. If the challenger is above the player in the league.

f. If the player is already playing 2 or more games in a WHO tournament.

5. Challenges must be accepted within 2 working days. If an eligible challenge is not accepted then the challenger can claim the game as a victory. The challenger is responsible for claiming the victory according to rule 10. If the claim is upheld, the player failing to accept the challenge is exempt from having to accept any further challenges for the next 7 days.

Games

6. Games will be played with a time limit of 1, 2 or 3 days per move. This should be agreed in advance.

7. The challenger will play as black unless otherwise agreed by both players.

8. The "vacation" function in chess.com can be used to pause the game if you need to be away. This function can be found in online games settings.

League Positions

9. At the end of each game, if the player with the higher league postion wins then league positions are not affected. If the player with the lower league rating wins then this player moves up the league by the difference between the two players’ positions, up to a maximum of 4 places, and the losing player moves down by one position. This is based on the players’ positions at the END of the game.

10. The winner of each game should post the result on the Results thread of the WHO Chess forum in chess.com. If the result of the game requires a change in league positions, then the winning player should als0 ensure that one of the league moderators is informed (currently kenyahammer, alias, crowleyhammer…) so that the table can be updated. Results will be entered into the table in the order in which they appear in the Results thread.

11. New group members will automatically join the league in bottom place.

Disputes

12. All disputes should be posted on WHO and will be resolved by mob rule.
