This position is derived from a classic bishop opening known as a Berlin Defense. 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nf6 3. d3 Nc6 4. Bg5 Bc5 5. Ne2?? I am playing as white and have made a critical blunder by playing Ne2. Can you spot the opportunity that my opponent has? #LearnFromMyMistake! Comment below with a blunder that you made this week.

Sometimes we come up with a play & plan that we think is brilliant! Then our opponent plays a move that we did not account for. What do we then? Recalculate our opponents and ask "Does my plan or play still work?" If the answer is no then you have to figure out a way to neutralize your opponents threat. This position is brought to us by a game between GM Seirawan and Former World Champion Karpov.

Let's take a look at a position reached in a recent game between two of our club members. White has just played Qe3; how can black take advantage of the opponent's inaccurate play?

Today's -position is brought to us by Gabe and Danero. It's a very a common position resulting from the fried liver attack and results in black mounting a counter attack. This position is brought to us by SamJets12 and MPWizard123. Sam has a serious decision to make here. Which combination is worth more: a knight & a bishop or a rook?

From my understanding, we have quite a bit of basketball fans and players in our club. Suppose you are not a fan, that's ok. But one thing that is common between both games is that great defense leads to championships! How can you have great defense in chess? If you want to become better at chess, you must understand what your opponent is threatening. But always remember, with each move played, the threat is evolving!

One parallel to life and chess is that greed often leads to an individual demise! Do you see a way to win the game after the fatal blunder (1.... Qxa4) played by our opponent?

We said that greed often results in an individual demise. One thing you should always consider before you make any move (including checks and captures) is "What can my opponent play?" Failure to consider your opponents' threat often results in blunders, losses or even missed opportunities!
