Hello everyone!
I'm excited to share a custom piece set I’ve created, inspired by the way chess is played and remembered in Bangladesh. Growing up, I learned chess not with the term Queen, but rather Montri (which means "Minister" or "Adviser" in Bangla). This left a strong impression on me, and I wanted to bring that nostalgic, culturally-rooted version of the game to life.

🧩 Here’s what makes this set unique:
The Queen has been replaced with the "Minister (Montri)" – reflecting the terminology many Bangladeshis like myself grew up with. The Minister piece has been specially designed by replacing the traditional Queen’s crown with a turban (pagri)—referencing how ministers historically wore turbans in our region. This gives the piece a distinctive South Asian cultural identity while preserving its function on the board. The chessboard features the colors of the Bangladeshi flag – rich green and bold red– symbolizing national pride and identity. This project is both a personal tribute and a creative expression of how chess connects with local culture and memory. I'm uploading this here to share with others who might appreciate a different lens on the game– one rooted in identity and tradition.
I hope you enjoy playing with this set as much as I enjoyed creating it.Your thoughts, feedback, or even similar cultural takes are warmly welcome!
