CLASSIC ROUND ROBINS CLUB "GRAND PRIX" POINTS SYSTEM FOR 2026
For tournaments starting in 2026, we are implementing a "Grand Prix" (GP) points system. This will be almost the same as the GP system that we used in 2024, with the addition of a "Bonus Points" feature. The objective of this system is to credit players for both participation and performance in our club tournaments over a one-year period. After considering various methods for awarding points, including the "Place/Rank" system, we decided to use a simpler system: "Actual Points Plus Participation Point". Note that this is a separate system and will not affect the scores in the individual tournament cross tables.
At the completion of each tournament (Quads, Hexads, and other events), each player who completes all games in the tournament will receive 1 point (for participation) plus their actual score in the tournament.
"Completion" of a game means that the game was actually played or there is no at-fault forfeit. If a player forfeits a game ("0F") or withdraws from the tournament, the player does not receive a participation point for the tournament. The player still retains the actual score portion of the GP point award. (Note that excessive forfeits are discouraged and are subject to provisions in the Club's GUIDELINES.) In summary form:
Grand Prix Points = 1 (if all games completed, no "0" forfeit) + Actual Tournament Score
If a player withdraws from a tournament and a substitute player joins the tournament in their place, then the substitute player will earn GP points for the games actually played. The substitute's participation point award is 1 point if the substitute plays at least half the total rounds in a tournament (3 games for Quads, 5 games for Hexads). If the substitute plays less than half, the substitute earns 0.5 point. (The latter case occurs if the substitute joins the tournament after half of the rounds have been played.)
Bonus Points Feature: A player who completes at least four club tournaments that start in calendar year 2026 will be awarded 3 additional points.
This will apply for all club tournaments that start in calendar year 2026. Tournaments that start late in the year will not complete until early in the following year (2027). The final totals for 2026 will be updated when those tournaments complete. The player with the most points will be "Club Grand Prix Winner" for 2026.
