Hello there! For this lecture, I will be presenting some of my own tournament games. I find these pretty instructional, so I hope you will too. It's always good to review your own games to identify your strengths and weaknesses. ^What can you learn from the above game? Give two concrete examples or explanations. ^What did you notice about the way my opponent and I played this game? What techniques did we constantly employ?

I know that there are quite a few of you wish to participate in some actual, rated tournaments! Playing in tournaments is not only fun and rewarding, but also crucial in helping you develop into a better chess player. It seems a little intimidating and you may be confused about where you should start, but it's really not that hard! We'll do our best to help guide you through the process In this forum, we will go over the basics of how to register for local tournaments. 1. You'll have to officially register as a member of uschess.org. Prices range from $17-50 per year, and you need to renew annually to stay an active member. You have to be a member in order to play in official, rated tournaments. Here is the link to the registration site: https://secure2.uschess.org/webstore/member.php and if you want to check out uschess.org 's homepage: https://new.uschess.org/home/ 2. There are no tournaments in the Ithaca region that we currently know of, so the nearest ones are typically in NYC at the Marshall chess club. You'll have to actively look for available tournaments and register. For the majority of them, you'll be signing up as an individual participant, but sometimes there are collegiate tournaments which include university teams (Hopefully we can bring some of our very own club members so we can play as a team!). If you're interested in scouting some tourneys in NY, check out this site and filter by state: https://new.uschess.org/upcoming-tournaments We will do our best to notify you of local tournaments as soon as they pop up! We understand that you are probably busy with schoolwork and life, but we highly recommend competing in a real tournament since it is a rewarding experience to finally apply your traxler or fried liver attack MORE INFO TO COME
