Corpus Christi Chess Community has opportunities to play OTB Chess and I wish more of us could take advantage of it.  Margaret (@MBLHUT) does a fantastic job running the Chess Club at the Garcia Center on Agnes St. (just off the Crosstown Expwy) and she puts out advertisements on social media. We meet every 2nd and last Thursday of every month (exc holidays)  from 5 pm to 7:30 pm (sometimes later!) Pizza and bottled water are provided as well as chessboards and even clocks for the more adventurous. Skills range from the brand new learners to established competitors. Recently we have 10 -16 show up but we have room for more! I think it would be neat to have "unofficial" non-rated competitions to help prepare the more dedicated players who attend rated USCF tournaments. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve your game and learn "things"!Chess players also meet unofficially at the Neyland Library (next to Sutherland's near Parkdale Plaza every Saturday from 11am to 1:30 pm (some start earlier at 10 am!). Chess boards are provided. Many children are learning the game here. So, even if you haven't played in a while, come on out and refine your Chess skills and re-enter the world of gambits, pins, forks, skewers, castling, en passant and of course,... check mates!
