Ok guys, I think we have enough members to accept this challenge now. Let's have everyone joining up. We currently have a higher average rating than them so it should be a close one. Here is the link: http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=6676 Good luck!

EDIT: as a result of this post, someone has reached out to let me know there is already an active Somerset club named - Somerset Wyvern - no idea why they didn't come up when i was searching, but they are active and compete in multiple comps. Rather than try and have two clubs, i'm going to head over there. best James   Hi all, I’ve had a look through the club and, to reinvigorate things, we need to hold a vote. If enough members vote in favour, Chess.com will transfer club ownership so we can get things active again. To be clear, I’d be more than happy to re-include any current admins if they return — this isn’t about excluding anyone, just about giving the club a fresh start. I'd love to get some games going, potentially join events like the County Championship, and generally bring the club back to life. Once we get ownership sorted, we can look at adding some more admins and setting up regular events. If you agree, please comment “yes” below. If you don’t agree, feel free to comment “no.” I’ll leave this post up for a few days, and if there’s enough support, I’ll contact Chess.com to start the process. Thanks,Jock
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in reinvigorating this club? If so, does anyone know, or is able to reach out to the current owner? I’ve tried to message, but I’m Not allowed to message, I assume the person has their messages turned off at the moment.  I’d happily take over as owner/admin and see if we can get some matches going.  Be good to get a few of us Involved, if anyone else fancies it?  Thanks James

https://www.somersetfilm.com/the-engine-room Am in discussion with this lot, about making some short films. Initially on horror top trumps...the famous 2 card pack from 78/81. If that goes well, then might move onto othre things like chess, or birding on the levels. Anyone wanna get involved.? Let me know )

I think it would be good to enter a Somerset Team in the 2017 County Championship. I'm not wishing to tread on anyone's toes but would be prepared to do the admin necessary if that's alright with everyone. I aim to contact all club members who have been active on the site within the last week. Judging by my initial check if 50% of those were prepared to play we would very comfortably meet the criteria for number of players. The closing date for entries is Nov.30th so we do need to respond fairly quickly. Regards, Alan Stonebridge

Our final match of the first round of the CC. Match will be starting soon - let's have as many people signing up as possible. Probably lock today (Mon 9th) or the day after. Cheers gang! Here is the match link.
Right- matches coming thick and fast and our next one's against Worcestershire. Their average rating is huge and they have several very strong players (not entirely sure how their in Div. 3!) Anyway it is still essential that we do as well against them as possible. Here is the match link, good luck all!
Right, a new year kicks off a new round of the CC - and we have Northamptonshire first up. The match is now locked; here's the link: http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=26873
After a long radio silence for this group, the first round draw of the county cup has been made and we are pitted against Suffolk. They are a team of similar strength to ours but they have some good players so we need as many of you as possible to overcome their lower order. Here is the link for the match: http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=24515 Feel free to post any games you are proud of or want analysis on in this topic. Good luck!
Right fellow countymen, our final match of the preliminary stage of the County Championship will lock tomorrow evening- (15th July). It will be a very tough game so again a good turnout would be...well, good. Here's the link, in case you haven't already joined: http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=12653 Feel free to post any games you are proud of or want analysis on in this topic. Good luck!
Hey guys, Our next Team match is our first of the County Championship so I expect a great turnout. We have a lower average rating than them but now slightly more players. Here is the link to sign up: http://www.chess.com/groups/team_match.html?id=11421 Match begins July 1st so sign up before then, broze Ps. Any questions about the league, ask here or mail me directly.
Hi there, I have accepted another votechess game, this time against Dorset, good luck all. Here Is the link: http://www.chess.com/votechess/game.html?id=21310838 I want to have a limit of two (or 3) vote chess games at any time with a team this big so make sure you contribute, any thoughts are welcome, cheers, broze.
Hi gang, I have accepted a vote chess game from Bristol and I want as many of you as possible joining up for the first one. They outrate us a bit but we will surely overcome them with our Somerset wiles. Here is the link: http://www.chess.com/votechess/game.html?id=18377981 For the moment our policy will be to play only against other Counties, States, Cities and perhaps small countries, cheers, broze.
