US Chess League State Competition 2021 Season Division 2 Spirit: The US Chess League is an interstate competition between teams representing the 50 States of the US and several Canadian provinces. 28 states and provinces are entering the competition this year. While every team is encouraged to motivate their teams to do their best, the League also intends to help teams to grow in size and become more active drawing from players in their state. As teams use different criteria in terms of membership eligibility, admins are asked to inform their teams about the nature of the competition and discourage members with no-state ties from joining matches for this competition. We have never had issues in the past so we are confident that this won't be any different this year. In case of disputes or questions, contact the admin of your opposing team first, then the League admins prior to commenting publicly. Rules and Regulations Length of Season 10 (2021): 1 year Format: 9 Rd Round Robin. Start Date: July 4th 2020 End Date: June 30th 2021 – or earlier if all matches have been decided. Minimum number of players per team: six (6). No maximum number of players. Rating Range: Open Time: 3 days/move, Games to be played concurrently (i.e. change default setting from "1" to "2", see here how to do it.) Prizes: Trophies for places 1 thru 3. Player eligibility: All admins understand that this is a competition between players of the respective states and adhere to the common sense principles of such a competition. A player can only play for one team throughout a season regardless of division. Once they play for a team, they have to stay with that team throughout the season. First place team will be promoted to Division 1. Last place team will be demoted to Division 3. Tiebreaker will be head-to-head results, and then the differential between match points won and lost across the entire season if the teams remain tied. If by June 30th of 2020, a match has not concluded, the score will be taken at that day to assure a timely conclusion of the season. Uncompleted matches will not be scored for the purposes of determining the result of this tiebreaker. Teams may not remove players from their roster to obtain a more favorable match up. Team admins may remove players from their roster who exceed a timeout ratio of 25%. Removed players need to be published in the team match thread prior to commencement of match. Example: Player A was removed in accordance with timeout rule: Timeout ratio 55%. Match scores will be finalized after taking into consideration the account closures of members due to cheating. This will occur prior to announcing the final standings. Opening databases without engine evaluation and opening books are permitted in Daily Chess, but the use of engines and tablebases is never permitted. See here for the applicable rules: https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/articles/1444879. If you are not clear about the rules - ask. Forfeits: In order to claim a forfeit win, please post a note to this forum that challenge has been issued. If the match has not started within a week of the intended start date and no note has been posted, the result will count has a 0-0. For forfeits relating to the minimum number of boards, teams are encouraged to take screenshots showing their own team meeting the requirement to ensure that they are credited with the forfeit win. In order to claim a forfeit, a claim must be made before the lock date of the next round. Teams are encouraged to use the AutoStart feature when issuing the challenge. When using the feature, set the start time to 7PM PT (10PM ET) of the day shown on the schedule. Unfinished Matches: If a match result has not been determined as of the end date, but it is necessary that the match conclude to determine final standings placement, then the remaining incomplete games within that match will be decided using chess.com’s analysis tool. If a player is leading by a score of 2.0 or more, they will be determined to have won that game. If the difference is less than 2.0, the game will be calculated in the result of that match as a draw. MARYLAND Vote Chess Guide This guide is to demonstrate how we play Vote Chess (VC). Or more accurately,... TEAM chess.I will start by saying how NOT to participate in our Vote Chess games: turn up, look at the board and vote for whatever you want without reading or saying anything. If this is you STOP IT!! We call this kind of voter a DBVer... drive-by voter. It is effectively sabotage! In order to minimise blunders getting voted for (sometimes they look very natural and very playable, but lead to disasters) we employ a controlled system of voting.Firstly, we have designated captains. At the point of writing this, they are: @kookaburrra @Tony_Hehl However, this list may change. The captain will be the one posting the images and making vote-calls. If you find there isn't one in a game, then say something!! If you want to be a VC Captain, please ask! Ok, so here is how it goes: 1. Before our move, a captain should post up an image like so: This is a reminder to NOT VOTE, but discuss what you would like to play and preferably why. Posting the move only isn't much value, but it is better than nothing. If an image like this isn't posted, then you should still act as if it has. 2. Read what others are saying. Keep an open mind. 3. Analyse the game position and continue discussion. 4. At around the 24 hour mark, a captain will post something like this:23... Bd6Which is giving the all clear to vote. Obviously, we would like you to vote for Bd6 in this situation. However, if you have a strong objection, vote for your chosen move, but you should state your opposition, what move you voted for and why, so that we may all learn from your insight.Lastly 5. Vote! The main aim of our vote chess is to share the knowledge. That can only be done by discussion! We are much stronger as a team.Enjoy your team chess, learn, share, play!

So happy to get us a good start in the match. With black my opponent just dropped their queen. In their game with white they played very poorly against the Sicilian O'Kelly. Fun finish. GL in your games. https://www.chess.com/game/daily/424278433

As your matches are confirmed, please post the link here in this thread. If you have sent a challenge, and have not gotten a response, please post that here as well. If you are looking for your opponents club page, check the second column of the table above, those should be working links for each team in the league. This Season we will be doubling up September, so you will be starting two matches in September. We will also not be skipping December. This is in an effort to get the league back on a July 4th start date next year. Any questions, please let the admin team know. Have a fun season!
Leave a note here if you are interested in playing a live match with Hawaii on the 19th or 20th September. When the time is organised you need to make sure you can be here. Don’t know which day or time yet. Just seeing if there is interest.
Please post here if you’d be interested in playing a game of vote chess in Maryland Club. Vote chess is team chess where we all play 1 game against another club and discuss our moves. It’s a good way to get to know each other. If there is interest we will have a vote chess game.

G’day from Australia. I have a brother who lives in Maryland and the reason why I felt a connection with this club. He married an American lady not that long ago. He is Australian like I am. Would appreciate knowing about your area of the world and any pictures or information. Just curious. And appreciate being here and meeting you all.

Hello Maryland Chess enthusiasts, maybe you can help me spread the word about an upcoming tournament for rated and unrated players on May 18th? http://www.checkmatecancer.com/ All proceeds from the tournament go to help a kid with cancer from an elementary chess club that run. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Hi folks, we know that Andy Harris is running against Frank Krativolt and Ehrlich is running against O'Malley. Out of these, who would you choose? My opinion, Frank Krativolt should remain in congress and Ehrlich should be governor. Your thoughts?
