According to the below link the tournament schedule for 1|0 Bullet Swiss is as follows:

Tourney 1|0 Bullet- Every 4 hours, @ :55 (starting @ 1:55am)

6 games a day

 1:55 AM

5:55 AM

9:55 AM

1:55 PM

5:55 PM

9:55 PM

I have eagerly tried to join a 1|0 Bullet Swiss tournament for the past few days and I have not seen it at the allocated time.  Not sure if this is a bug or perhaps the original scheduled time has changed?  For example, I took a screenshot this evening @ 9:50 PM EST and I was anticipating there would be a game at 9:55 PM.  There was nothing there.

For future reference, it would be helpful for staff to edit the article I posted above, to let people know what time zone these games are based on.  I'm assuming Eastern Standard Time (EST) because the site was founded in the United States of America.  But I could be incorrect?

*** UPDATE *** (as of May 12 @ 12:26 AM EST)

I did see the 1|0 Bullet Swiss tournament game posted to begin @ 1:05 AM EST (Eastern Standard Time) on Sunday May 12 (50 minutes earlier than the schedule says it's suppose to start).  The schedule says it's suppose to begin @ 1:55 AM.  So either the schedule posted on the chess.com forum regarding the tournament schedule is out of date or the system is setting up the wrong time for the tournament to begin?  Or the chess.com site is running off of a time zone other than EST?

generally the time zone used is UTC but i could be wrong

@rcu21  It would be helpful to know what time zone chess.com is scheduling tournaments around.  I have followed the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST) in the past with success.  So not sure if the time zones have changed or if the tournament is missing due to a bug.

no nevermind it is in ET

and you have it wrong it is EDT not EST

Avatar of rcu_21

yup i just checked it would be 8:50 since there would be 30 minutes until the 3|0 crazyhouse meaning 1 hour and 5 minutes until the 1|0 swiss

i hope that solves your problem

all the tournaments start 1 hour after the time that you see on that schedule

We are actually both correct. happy.png

"The term Eastern Time (ET) is often used to denote the local time in areas observing either Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) or Eastern Standard Time (EST)"

@rcu21  I don't understand what you're saying.  You said "no nevermind it is in ET" and then "all the tournaments start 1 hour after the time that you see on that schedule".

That doesn't answer my original question of what time zone the tournament schedule is based on.  Some tournaments play every hour, others are every 3, 4, or 6 hours.  The schedule must be based on a specific time zone.  I'm just trying to figure out if it's EST or something else, so I'll know when I can play games.

That doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure if you read the link I posted regarding the time zones?

https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/et

Canada and the United States BOTH use EST in the winter and EDT in the summer.  Says it in the article.  I'm assuming because of what you said that you did not read the information?

@rcu21  I just posted an update to my original post.  It's highlighted in Cyan if you want to read it.

PT is used for chess.com purposes, as chess.com HQ is in California

Avatar of Jonani

@Typewriter44  It might be Pacific Time, still haven't received an answer from staff.  I have my doubts that the tournaments are running off PT.  The Swiss tournament for 1|0 3+ starts at 1:40am Eastern Time, which is the same as the posted schedule on chess.com.  But the tournament for the Swiss 1|0 Bullet starts at 1:05am, but it's posted to start at 1:55am (50 minute difference).

I will try emailing support staff again and if I get no valid response, I will email them directly.

Well, I can confirm that the times are in PT. I have recently played in a few rapid tournaments and the listed schedule is correct

   Tourney 15|10 Rapid- Every 4 hours, @ :35 (starting @ 1:35am)

so for Pacific Time the tourneys are at 1:35am, 5:35am, 9:35am, 1:35pm, 5:35pm, 9:35pm

which translates to EDT (my time) as 4:35am, 8:35am, 12:35pm 4:35pm 8:35pm, 12:35am

Since the staff has not responded, we can take matters in to our own hands and just check the tournament history.

@Typewriter44  I will try and keep an eye on the 1|0 Bullet Swiss tournaments.  Those are the only ones I play on a regular basis and sometimes 1|0 Bullet Arena.  Unfortunately the Swiss games are only once every 4 hours, which makes it a bit more difficult to double check the times, whereas the Arena games are every hour.

I will also keep a look out for the swiss tourneys
