Steve and I played a game with the opening line: 1. d4 d5 2. Bg5.

Background: while playing OTB, I had a bad tendency of playing QGA as black. One time, I decided that I would play QGD.  Unforuntately, my opponent didn't cooperate and played 2. Bg5.  I have never seen this move before.  I played h6 and got clobbered.  Steve and I decided to play this opening line and see where it goes.    Here is our latest game:

We would be interested to hear what people thought of the opening and play.

The name I found associated with this is the Hodgson attack.  Probably still Julian Hodgson that made the Trompowsky famous (1. d4 Nf5 2. Bg5).

Julian is a present day master, so this opening probably has several names.  Levotsky is probably one of them!

It looks like it was "Black to lose" after move 14.

It was a good game Aaron played well and I played badly!!

I should have grabbed knight with bishop-However I remember a comment from one of the Ruy Lopez exchange games that it wasn't a good move to exchange so avoided it this go. I know Black doubles up pawns but don't have enough knowledge to work out how to exploit this.any hints??

I've been looking at London system and really wanted to stop Bishop on f4 rather than g5.

I missed the trap with Knight ad Bishop so lost queen.

Would be interesting to hear any later alternative moves that may have kept me in game longerPlease be relevant, helpful & nice!

The final position in the that I put in after 16 kd1 is  puzzle btw.  Black to move and win the white queen.

I've played 3...h6 as black and got crushed. do you need to plan on castling queenside?  Where do you think white went wrong?  I know it wasn't because of high quality black play.

I guess you could always try 2. ...f6 - a handful of top GMs have tried it with some success since 2007ish when Anand did it.  2. ...f6 Nh4 Nh6 covering the f7 square with a knight to give time to go queenside.  Qb6 comes with tempo since the dark bishop is out so early.

2. ...f6 3. Bf4 - the black players that know the 3. ...c5 move score pretty well, but it is way tricky to learn.  Better would be to play 3. ...Nc6 and get on with queen side development with somewhat better chances because of white's lost time.
