I'm wondering if a chess ladder here may get us interacting and playing each other more (With after game reviews/analysis) I've seen it working in other groups-along lines only being able to challenge person two places above/below you in league-a win pushing you above higher rated player etc etc. What do others think?

Heister was kind enough to play two games against me (white and black). This is the first game, I will post the second in one of the next days (busy here, world cup and everything). Quite satisfied, really, with this game. Should have resigned earlier, but I had no ilusions that I actually would maintain an pretty equal position to move 18. I do some positional bad moves and some tactical miscalculations I think, but all in all I am quite satisfied with this game - given the extreme differences in ratings. I have to add that here I played without any attacking plan _at all_. I just moved pieces so they seemed to be safe, but not with any ideas on how to use them later in an attack. That actually seemed to work quite ok. A big thank you to Heister, it was very interesting and hopefully I learned a lot. Feel free to comment.
Me and Myk99 had a online game. As with a lot of games I play, this is a good introduction to the "how not to play"-course. Not disappointed in loosing, but some tactical blunders and miscalculations killed me. A big thank you to Myk99 for taking the time :) I have included the score from Stockfish for each move, as I just added comments to those in Scid vs PC. All comments are welcome!

Steve and I played a game with the opening line: 1. d4 d5 2. Bg5. Background: while playing OTB, I had a bad tendency of playing QGA as black. One time, I decided that I would play QGD. Unforuntately, my opponent didn't cooperate and played 2. Bg5. I have never seen this move before. I played h6 and got clobbered. Steve and I decided to play this opening line and see where it goes. Here is our latest game: We would be interested to hear what people thought of the opening and play.
Interesting game, destroyed by some blunders by me. Anyway, comments are welcome. I did some bad mistakes, and was outsmarted. But a big thank you to Mr Crow who played against me. Deserved win.

Here is a game that we just finished. Any input would be appreciated.
As discussed in the notes, use this topic to analyse your own games or get insight from the other members on your games.
Mr. Crow and I played a series of 3 unrated cor games. 3 days/move. Here is my analysis of those games. I welcome any other challenges from the group. We had played a 3rd game that expired from my history before I got to this. After that game, I asked if he would play another game in the same opening (since I don't see it so often) and I tried a more main-line method. It's too bad that one expired since I think he was ahead for the early middle game. I had white in this first one, and Mr. Crow on black. Game 2 - Mr. Crow on White - Heister on black.
I wanted to post a fun game that I had a few weeks ago in Memphis. This was a little free 4 round G45 tournament and this game was in the last round. My opponent is a VERY good blitz player and a very attacking player which is what made this game exciting. enjoy.
Mr. Crow asked this question: "I have a question. When playing turn based online chess its easy to have an effective check-list to avoid miatakes. but thats pretty time consuming, how do you transfer that to a timed game?"
All my games are done now, looks like i got second place (out of 6) in the round but only the first goes to the next round. But i got plenty-o-games to analyise! One guy lost all his games due to time, so i wont bother posting them. We didnt even get past the opening. Lamo. Vs Chomop
This thead is for rook vs one pawn positions. The idea is to be thorough in learning the resources that a single pawn has against a rook. Here are a few positions from Lamprecht and Muller's endgame manual.
Hey, im studying on the sniper defence (books from Ron Henley) And from this variation, which happens to be my least favorite to play against. (although i have had only one game where somebody played it against me.) This book suggests a gambit that i dont fully understand. Another sniper book suggested it also but eiter faild to explain why besides "It obtains squares and activity on the queen side" Is it just about opening up the a file? Is there anything to this gambit that im not getting?
I don't know what there will be to discern on this one, he went wrong in the opening and the game ended as a short. <25 moves. My opponent is a NM, but he was playing 30 some odd games on here which means he didn't try as hard as I did. :D I'm posting this because it's an a6 slav. I used recent theory, so JD might want a look.

Its a bit off topic, but for a while exercise has been missing from my life. I have found some apps that made it a bit easier and decently fun and i figured i would share em! 1) Geocaching - This one is by far my favorite. If you have never heard of it then you are a muggle. Geocasching is pretty much a real life treasure hunt. There are caches everywhere, you use the app to find some nearby, it gives you a gps location to go to (usually public locations, like in a park). then, once you are at the location provided there will usually be a riddle or a clue to where the cache is hidden. Some of them even have small items as a treasure, that you can take if you leave something in return. Great for date ideas. I have found some pretty sneaky ones out there ie, fake rocks, false bottoms to bird feeders, fake screw. 2) Zombies, Run! - This fun app makes running a lot less tedious. With some headphones, it makes you the main character in an apocolipse setting. Each mission you will be running to gather supplies for your home base, and usually being chased by imaginary zombies. HQ will be talking through your headset immersing you into a virtual story. And the best part is you can put your own music playlist to play songs throughout the mission. Although i walk half the time it still makes me want to get back out there and finish the story and gather more supplies to level up my base. 3)Ingress - This one is pretty interesting, i just found it. Upon downloading you get told a story about a new invisible energy escaping into our world and you are now an agent who can harvest and control it. You pick a side resistance (good) or the Enlightened (evil) I wish i did the enlightened as most people in my area are with the resistance. But it turns your phone into a surprisingly detailed gps device that lets you see the special energy. There are locations around town (usually landmarks or buildings around town like a library or post office) where the energy is escaping. You have to claim the location and protect it with in game items like shields and turrets to harvest the energy. Its a really cool concept and i already control the post office in my town! Woot! If your interested in this tell me and i can get a recruitment bonus. ;)
I use a the tool at chesszen.com to guage my progress as a chess player. I was going to ask you guys for help on this one because I couldn't seem to find any improvement in the post game or with a computer. It was following a Nakamura game for the first 15 moves before we deviated. I usually score between 2200 and 2500 performance wise on chesszen, but this time the game came back 2793! Well junk.. do I have to scrap this line because it is too easy for white to play well? My opponent's performance was over 2650. Did he just have the game of his life to make this draw? Take a look and tell me if these moves for white are the same that you would choose? (or if you can improve my game any I'm all ears.. (I've checked it with stockfish, but not any other analysis software)
After three pretty easy wins I went for a super agressive line in my next game that I ordinarily wouldn't play. I was just feeling cocky and thougth I could get away with whatever I wanted. Its actually line that is a stronger verison of the shabalov gambit in the anti-meran lines. Its a pretty complicated game.
