It only counts as 17 when the checkmated player have 1-point queens,
9-8=1 9+8=17

Variations:
Magic public letters diplomacy: You can send from 0 to 4 magic letters with 3 modules each to other players, the player can agree or disagree with the deal of the letter, you can only send letters to 2 different players per turn (you can still move your pieces while you send letters), and every player will be able to see the letters. If a player agrees with atleast 1 letter, their turn is skipped, but they can still disagree or agree with other letters they received, once you move, you automactically disagree with every single letter that you received. Everyone starts with neutral relationship with everyone else, you can automaticaly declare war with 1 or more players, but that will skip your own turn(you can still send letters).
[relationship module]: the sender can choose 4 kinds of relationships that the receiver can have with other player, the sender can also choose for how many turns that same relationship it will be, it can be chosen between 1 to 25 turns:
war: the players can capture eachothers pieces without restrictions
neutral: the players can capture eachothers pieces, except for the king
alliance: the players cannot capture eachothers pieces
friends: the players cannot capture eachothers pieces, when one of the players on this same relationship captures a piece, the points are divided with other players that are in the same relationship.
[points transference module]: The sender can choose a number of points they will give to or get from the receiver, example: The sender offers 3 points in a letter, if the receiver agrees, the sender will lose 3 points and the receiver will get 3 points, if its the opposite of offering, the receiver is gonna be the one who give points to the sender. A player cannot have negative points.
[piece disappearence module]: The sender can choose which pieces (except for the king) can be removed of the board, pieces can only be chosen if it belongs to the receiver or sender, the coordinates of which pieces will disappear are obrigatory to be mentioned in the letter.
[piece teleportation module]: The sender can choose which pieces can be teleported on the board, pieces can only be chosen if it belongs to the receiver or sender, the coordinates of which pieces will teleport to where are obrigatory to be mentioned in the letter.
[piece transformation module]: The sender can choose which pieces (except for the king) can be transformed into on the board, pieces can only be chosen if it belongs to the receiver or/and sender, the pieces can be transformed into (Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight or Pawn) the coordinates of which pieces will transform into which piece are obrigatory to be mentioned in the letter.

Letter to orange<name of the player>:
You receive: 34 points
You receive: war relationship with green for 7 turns
I receive: my pawn on <coordinate> teleports to <coordinate>
Obs: Letters should be made and send in this game, and not on private chat.
Be careful with what you agree.
Checkmate + material: If a king is checkmated the other pieces are gonna be converted into points to the one who checkmated that same king (if 1-point queen is included, instead of 1 point, the checkmater receives 17 points for each 1-point queen of the player checkmated). The value of the king itself in this game is 3 points.
Custom promotion: pawns can promoted to: amazon or 1-point queen on the 8th rank
