1st Thematic Tournament Series: Choose the Openings!!

Sort:
Wizard_Chess97

Hello everyone!

I am planning a new tournament series, in which each tournament will have a special thematic opening position. (See more information about it, such as the rating ranges and group sizes in the link here.) But, I need you to help decide which openings! Here's how this works:

Below is a list of possible thematic openings for the series. Choose your favorite one, the one you want to be made into a tournament. The most popular ones will be chosen to become thematic tournaments! Also, you can suggest your own openings not listed here!

You can choose more than one, whichever you think would be best made into a tournament. You can also pick a whole opening (like the Sicilian Defense, for the game to start with 1.e4 c5) or a particular line/variation (like the Sicilian Defense Najdorf Variation English Attack, starting with 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Be3 )

Remember, these are only suggestions. There are so many chess openings that I could never name them all here. For some openings, such as the Sicilian, there are so many variations and variations to the variations that I've only included the most popular/well known ones. Feel free to pick variations or even whole openings I haven't mentioned here!

This is only open for a short time!

Let's get started!

Good hard work maroon, well put together

robert_wilson

I'd vote and love to join but my account restrictions won't let me, i noticeso my vote wouldn't be fair. I open queen pawn, but so many people I play open kings pawn vs me

robert_wilson

I vote for English Opening

Add:

English opening: Wing Gambit

Danish Gambit

Evans Gambit

Queen`s Indian(unless if falls under Indian Game)

King`s Indian(unless if falls under Indian Game) :P

Pirc Defense(e4,d6,d4,Nf6)

I think I have blogs on these openings mentioned above in this comment -I think.. so... check them out!

I'm not sure how I forgot the Pirc and the Danish! And yes, the KID and QID fall in the "Indian Game" category.

robert_wilson, thanks! Also, even if you can't play in the tournament you can still vote, but the other members' votes (the ones that are playing) will trump yours.

cornell100

I would like to vote for Caro-Kann, Indian Game & Reti Opening

Wizard_Chess97

Ok, cool! I haven't set a date yet, but at some point the most-voted for openings will be made into tournaments. Smile

Wizard_Chess97

Ok, unless anyone wants to add anything, the Indian Game will be the first tournament made. Smile

Signed.

Wizard_Chess97

Ok, so unless anyone else wants to add, the Polish Opening (1.b4) and the Indian Game (1.d4 Nf6) thematic tournaments will be created!

I want a thematic tournament on the English- just want to see how well Iam for my rating

Don't worry, I 'll make an English one. It's just that we have 2 votes for the Indian Game and 2 votes (kinda 3 if you count robert_wilson's) for the Polish, so those will be made first. Wink

anncatz1

what about two knight's defense or called fried liver 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng4 you could also not put in Ng4 and just leave it at 3. Bc4 Nf6

Wizard_Chess97

You're right, that is a possibility as well. There's also the Ruy Lopez (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb4.) I seem to have trouble remembering the openings I don't play. Wink

Wizard_Chess97

The first thematic tournament is up! The Indian Game - U1600 Section

O1500 section coming very soon! Laughing

The O1500 Section of the Indian Game is now up!

http://www.chess.com/tournament/1st-thematic-tournament-series-the-indian-game-o1500-section

Wizard_Chess97

Yup, it sure is! It'll still be open until the tourney series ends, which will be awhile. Wink

Calile

French Defense and Ruy Lopez are mA favourite openings at the moment.

Wizard_Chess97

Ok, thanks for your input everyone! Here is the table so far:

1. The Polish Opening - 3 votes  [tournaments already created, O1500 section still open]

2. The Indian Game - 2 votes    [tournaments already created and started]

3. The English Opening - 1 really insistent vote (lol! Laughing) [tournaments already created, O1500 section still open]

Now, the Two Knight's Defense, Caro-Kann Defense, Reti Opening, Ruy Lopez, and French Defense all have 1 vote for them. If someone votes for any of these, that one will be the next tournament created. Otherwise, all of these will be created in the order they were voted for, unless other openings are requested. Wink

AnkitRaparthi

i vote for ruy lopez

ashandpikachu
