Just to let you know I have just noticed that messi000 who plays for Leinster has been banned.  He has played in most of our matches this season.  I understand any points he will have won will be forfeited.

Greengooner

That sounds like an organiser's nightmare, John. If completed matches are reviewed, it turns Leinster's draw with Somerset Wyvern into a defeat. Over to you, Matt !!

matt1979

Yes the win will be awarded to Somerset as per the rules.  When the tables are updated this will be shown.

Tricky_Dicky

I will hope to update tables this AM

Greengooner

Out of interest Matt, how far back does the punishment go ? If a player is banned (and I'm not referring to this case) are his results in all current competitions reviewed, and what about  completed competitions ? Let me reiterate I am not enquiring with any particular claims in mind.

matt1979

Only league results for the current season are reversed.   Any cup match results can only be altered if the result hasn’t already been declared.

Looking at Richard's updated tables, I think this means the title is now up in the air between Leinster and Somerset, with everything riding on the last game in Somerset vs Gloucestershire.

Greengooner

Hi Matt, Sorry to put more work your way but could you explain how the title will be decided if we beat Gloucestershire and does an 11.5 -10.5 or 12-10 win make any difference ?

Thanks again for all your superb organisation.

I think this is the relevant rule:

11. If teams have an equal number of points at the end of the season, then the following in order will be taken into account to determine finishing places: a) The match result(s) between tied teams, if a team has beaten all those teams they have tied with, they will finish above them in the league. b) The total number of games won minus the total number of games lost in the season, by each team. The team with the highest score will take the top position. c) The total number of timeouts in a season, the time with the least will finish top if points a and b can't separate the teams.

So my interpretation is that if you finish level on points with Leinster it will come down to the head-to-head record, which favours Somerset. Unless there's an exception or a rule I'm missing that Matt can correct me on?

Greengooner

Thanks AJ,

As we'll both be level with Yorkshire on 16 points, won't the H2H be equal (with each of us winning one and losing one). So Yorkshire and Somerset's points differences are very close and both are better than Leinster's.

I'm pleased to say this does reward the counties with the largest number of players in their teams.

Is there a reason why the charts show the percentages rather than the points difference ?

Excellent point, then my interpretation is not correct.

3 teams would be on 16 points, with each team having beaten 1 of the other 3. I think it would then come down to part b of the rule:

b) The total number of games won minus the total number of games lost in the season, by each team. The team with the highest score will take the top position.

Greengooner

This is very close !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The charts make it appear that only our remaining game with Gloucestershire is important but we have three uncompleted games against Hampshire still in the mix which will affect our points difference. Yorkshire may also have some unfinished games. I'm going to shut up now and leave it to the folk in charge !!
