This is a short guide for new admins, specifically for county clubs taking part in the County Championship. Important You must be a member of the CCCUKI group in order to receive: announcements, fixtures, league tables, and multiplayer violation notifications. CCCUKI Competitions There are currently four competitions in the CCCUKI calendar: Full League Open to players of all ratings. This is the main CCCUKI competition and usually runs from December through to August each year. Rounds are generally spaced every 28 days. Knockout Cup Also open to all ratings. This is a separate knockout competition which runs concurrently with the main league season. New rounds are created once both teams have progressed from the previous round. Under 1600 Competition Restricted to players rated below 1600. League format. Under 1300 Competition Restricted to players rated below 1300. League format. Announcements & Fixtures As an admin, you will need to monitor round announcements carefully. You should normally receive notifications in your Chess.com mailbox. Alternatively, announcements can be accessed directly through the CCCUKI group page menu. Inside each announcement you will find: fixtures, match parameters, minimum player requirements, and start dates/times. Setting Up Matches Below is a quick guide originally posted by TMCL TD @stephen_33 and adapted for CCCUKI. Method 1 – Creating Matches from Your Own Club Page From your own club page, click New Club Tournament /Match. This opens the Tournaments page. Scroll down to Club Daily Match. Enter the name of the club you wish to challenge. Typing the first few letters will normally display matching clubs. Enter the match title. Example:CC26 2026 U1300 R7: Edinburgh-Lothian v Yorkshire Terriers Check the game type is set to: Standard Chess Set the time control to: 3 days Enter the correct start date and time. Important: ensure the minutes field is set to 00. Under Players, enter the rating restriction if applicable: 1300 for U1300 1600 for U1600 Under Players Per Club, enter the minimum number required for your division in the Min box. Disable AutoStart This is enabled by default and should be switched off, but should not effect the match start if no upper player numbers are specified. Once everything has been checked carefully, click Create. Method 2 – Creating Matches Directly from the Opponent Club Page Click the team link in the CCCUKI announcement. On the opponent’s club page, click Challenge. Scroll down and select Daily Match. Fill in the relevant match details as above. Enter the match title manually. Note: club names are not automatically inserted. Check: Standard Chess 3 days per move Enter the correct start date and time. Again, ensure the minutes field is set to 00. Enter any relevant rating restrictions. Enter the minimum player requirement for your division. Disable AutoStart. Once satisfied everything is correct, click Create. After the Match Is Created Once the match has been set up, admins should monitor player numbers to ensure the minimum team requirement is reached. Teams are encouraged to strengthen participation by: posting club announcements, sending personal invitations/messages, and actively recruiting players. This is fully permitted within CCCUKI rules and is commonly used by the more competitive teams. Active communication and recruitment can make a significant difference to both participation levels and team success.

Hi everyone I don’t know if you will find this of use in your teams. With a lot of new players joining the teams I have had a few questions as to how they can join team matches. I have put together this brief guide to explain things. Feel free to copy this into your own team pages if you think it will be of use. Any errors let me know and I will amend. Thanks

How the Sonneborn–Berger is used in County Championship tables As posted in notes this is how the Sonneborn–Berger is calculated. ‘The Sonneborn–Berger score (or the Neustadtl score) is a scoring system often used to break ties in chess tournaments. It is computed by summing the conventional score of each defeated opponent, and half the conventional score of each drawn opponent.’ In practice, for conventional OTB tournaments, this would be calculated and published after each round is completed to decide tie-breaks for equal match points. As daily, 3 days per move, team matches on Chess.com have multiple rounds running concurrently and with no fixed definitive end point a slightly different approach for publishing tables has been adopted. This has no adverse consequences for the final tables or positioning of teams. The method used assumes that all ‘in progress’ matches have league points gained even if neither team has actually reached a winning match score at that point in time. The SB points are then calculated on the assumption that the final match points will be awarded as per the current match position. In the early stages of the league matches this method assigns tie-break points for unfinished matches to facilitate easier sorting of league tables and is only indicative of team progress. As the league progresses and matches reach a conclusion, then the SB calculation becomes definitive and relevant for confirming league position should head to head not produce a result. Hope that clarifies the current methodology.

Here is a quick guide to setting up matches that was posted by TMCL TD @stephen_33, which I have amended for the CC23 U1300. # From your own club, click on 'New Event' (opens the 'Tournaments' page) Scroll down to 'New Daily Club Match' Fill in details of the challenging club and the club you want to challenge (enter the first 4 letters of the club name and matching club names will be shown) Enter match title (CC23 2023 U1300 R7: etc). **Note that the club names are not now added automatically, you will have to type these in. Check/enter type of game (Standard Chess) and time control (3 days) Enter start date and time, remembering now to also enter '00' in the minutes field! Under 'Players', enter 1300 in 'Rating Max' box For 'Players Per Club', enter the minimum for your division in the Min box You must now disable AutoStart! because it's set to On by default (move the slider to the left) Once you're fully satisfied that your challenge is correctly set up, click on Create. You can also set these up by clicking on the team link in the announcement: Click challenge on the club page you are challenging Scroll down to Daily match and select it. Fill in the relevant boxes as set out above Enter match title (CC23 2023 U1300 R7: etc). **Note that the club names are not now added automatically, you will have to type these in. Yorkshire seemed to beat Sussex in their semi-final on the countback rule, and Staffordshire beat Lancashire in a quarter-final, but this may or may not have been reversed after fair play violations. Whoever won, Worcestershire never played them in their semi-final, and no one played Yorkshire in a final. Possibly, this makes Yorkshire technical cup winners, entitling them to one, possibly two handles.
