By the way, can I get someone to be my test dummy to test if this is too difficult?
2b's Scavenger Hunt!
@Oliver_Brimley, by myself, but first can you explain it again?
You know Indiana Jones? Solve the clues, crack the cypher, and complete the puzzles? Essentially that, but with variants and without the skill test.
You should make the point scoring the negative value of right now (i.e. 10 points for first and lose 1 point per hint) because its generally more clear and understandable when points are good

y'know what fair point
but too late for that now lol. It'd be pretty unfair to change it, since I've already posted this
@yx-111aynye isn't tester and he would like to join
(lol jk me test me can't join)
i thought you couldn't access vw but okay
Find the clues, solve the puzzle, finish the game, and return to normal life. Are you up to the task?
Hey there! I'm 2b, and I'll be your host for this scavenger hunt.
-
First, here are the signup requirements:
1) Know Chess.com variants' history. Technically, this isn't necessary, but knowing very little about this will make the scavenger hunt seem like chapter 7 of Celeste (or, in other words, a pain to play).
2) Be able to access Variants World. This one is necessary, since a lot of clues have their solution be a VW post.
3) Sign up before August 25th at noon, Greenwich Mean Time. You'll most likely get an extra hour due to me setting up the teams, but don't rely on it. Unlike a certain competition (cough cough), it will start on August 25th, no matter what! (If it doesn't, I'll change my pfp to an anime girl)

[Signups ended]

How the hunt will work:
There will be three paths, each leading to a different 1-digit number. The goal is to be the first to DM the 3 numbers to me.
-
You are allowed to ask me for hints via DMs, but you'll get 1 point for every hint you ask for. I'm doing golf scoring, where points are bad. The team or player with the fewest points will win.
Here's how the point system works:
-10 points -- Finished 1st
-7 points -- Finished 2nd
-4 points -- Finished 3rd
-1 point -- Finished 4th or later.
+1 point -- Asking for a hint.
+1,000,000,000 points -- Forfeiting. This should essentially take a player who forfeits out of the running.
-
The prize is this virtual cookie 🍪. I'm broke and can't gift memberships.

Path 1 is made up of riddles, Path 2 is made up of cyphers, and Path 3 is purely VW knowledge.-Here are your starting clues (these are 3 different paths, btw):
Path 1. A world can be created, but it isn’t known until one sets foot on it.
Path 2. This variant is one of a kind: "h nlzl"
Path 3. [this is a paragraph, bear with me lol]
'New Guests Gather Yearly Upstairs.'
People who find success make autobiographies, right? Should I do that?
Four
Occasionally, I find a former user and just take a peek at their rating.
-
(no, the number at the end of Path 3 is not 4)
-
Apparently there's some confusion, so here's an explaination:
The 3 clues I put up on the main post are the first clues of 3 different paths. Your goal is to solve all three paths. At the end of each path is a 1-digit number (except the 3rd one, but it's obvious what the number is once you get there).
Each clue will lead you to the next clue, assuming you solved it correctly.
