Player names and rating are hidden until the game ends*.
The popup of a player playing in an anonymous game will show him or her as 'online' rather than 'playing'.
Player communication is disabled (as with /stop-chat) in rated anonymous FFA games. In teams, or in casual and diplomacy games, players can chat as 'Anonymous' in player's color.
*In FFA, note that after elimination, the player popup will show 'Observing' (thus revealing who was eliminated). You can avoid this to some extent by turning on the anonymous spectator setting, in which case only your friends will get to see you are 'Observering'.
