Registration has been closed (as per today Mar 29th) with 36 total participants.
We will play in Total 6 Rounds.
I will use An Accelerated pairing System, which is a variation of Swiss pairings in which the first two rounds are modified in such a way as to overcome the aforementioned weaknesses of the usual Swiss system, without compromising the reliability of the final rankings.
In usual Swiss tournaments with a wide range of playing strengths, the results of the first round(s) are usually quite predictable. In the first round, only a few percent of the games have a result other than "win to the stronger part". The same may happen again in round two.
While in the Accelerated method, the TD will do as follow:
Round 1:
Players are divided into four (roughly equally-sized) groups from highest ranking to lowest. Call them A1,A2,B1 and B2 from top to bottom. Group A1 plays Group A2 and Group B1 plays Group B2.
With normal pairings, A1 would be playing B1 and A2 would be playing B2. Thus the stronger players (in A1 and A2) will have tougher competition in the first round under accelerated pairings, the weaker players (B1 and B2) will have easier games. In effect, the first round pairings are more like typical second round pairings.
Round 2 - last round: back to usual Swiss.
