Hi i just recently play a game with this line i dont found in the forums, what this about it? is a mistake?

1. e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Bc5 5. Nxf7 Bxf2+ 6. Kf1 Qe7 7. Nxh8 d5 8.Be2

I don't think 8.Be2 is a good move. I think I'll need a little time to get some good analysis.

My first impression is that 8...Nxe4 (threatening to play 9...Qf6) looks like black's best response. From here on, white's best choices might be:

  • Blocking the f file with 9.Bf3. This move looks like white's best chouce to me, and both 9...Qf6 and 9...Qh4 should be looked at.
  • Playing 9.Bd3, preparing to meet 9...Qf6 with 10.Qf3. However, I think that 9...Qh4! looks good for blackin this position because the g-pawn is "pinned" due to the threat of Bh3+.
  • 9.Nc3 also deserves to be looked at a little more closer. I'll see what can I find there.

8...Nxe4 is probably not the best move. White is still safe and sound after 9. Bh5+.

If 9...Kf8, white will play 10. d3. Black will have to lose a knight or let black's queen occupy f3.

8...Bb6 looks better, still keeping an eye on f2.

Let me point you to the thread in the forum

Here is the line I wrote about in the thread in regards to 8.Be2 (although it was three years(!) ago since I wrote the post so do be aware of possible improvements).

B: 8.Be2?! Bb6 9.d4 (9.d3 Qc5 10.Qe1 Bg4 11.Nc3 0-0-0 and black has the advantage; 9.Bh5+ Kf8 10.Ke1 Nxe4 11.Qf3+ Kg8 12.d3 Nf6 13.Ng6 Qc5 14.Nc3 Nd4 15.Qd1 hxg6 16.Bxg6 Bg4 and black has the advantage9...Nxd4 10.Bh5+ Kf8 11.Bg5 Qc5 12.Nc3 Nxh5 13.Qxh5 Be6 14.Qxh7 Nf3 15.Bh4 dxe4 16.gxf3 Bh3+ 17.Ke1 Qe3+ 18.Ne2 exf3 19.Be7+ Ke8 20.Qg6+ Kd7 21.Rd1+ Bd4 and black wins. This is mostly untested though, few games have been played with this variation.
