1. You need to do testing (there's a pinned forum for that)
2. Promotion would be imbalanced due the odd-numbered ranks (see Best Friends Forever)
3. "Mini Chess" has been done at least 3 times, and all 3 attempts were declined.

I'm not sure what that means, but I'm assuming you mean "change board size to 5x5."
In the chess editor, promotion logic only works on even numbers. For example, in Best Friends Forever, (a 7x7 plus 4 wazirs), Red and Yellow seem to have different promotion ranks, but both of their promotion ranks are actually 4 (?)
I dont know if this is the spot to post your variants that you want to be made, but here I am. As said in the title I want to make a chessboard that is 5x5 instead of 8x8, how it would look like on the chessboard:
Its that simple, just get rid of the rest of the squares lol. All the pieces work the same castling im not completely sure sooooo ill make the developers think about that. Hope some of you think about this! And I hope it gets in the variants thanks for your time!
