A demotion attack?

Most of us here are familiar with ban attacks.

But in a club I am now owner of as of 2 days ago, an sa demoted all other staff and left the club.

Ban attacks are a threat to the community, as chess.com moderators recognise. But demotion attacks, do they deserve the same attention?

Also, any ideas on how to prevent and recover from them quickly? (Other than only promote the right people.)

I had that happen. The owner banned all the admins except me and made me owner and left. And I didn’t know him much. Luckily probably. So I brought them all back and continued.
Now the club is thriving.

I love happy endings.

Better off without him!

I don't have the exact statistics, but I will speak from my impressions.

Seems that about 80 to 90 percent of all the problems that i read about in this Admins Club are caused from making the wrong people an Admin or SA.

When are people going to learn?

I agree with JustADude. This same problem has been going on for years and years.

I also seen that and I must agree with it since it is true

Agreed. Demotion attacks are a problem (though, not as serious as ban attacks) and the perpetrators must be dealt with accordingly.

However, nearly all cases could easily be prevented by the Owner's using discretion and discernment in appointing administrators.

Agreed on all that's been said. Demotion attacks and ban attacks have the same root cause and can be prevented the same way.

There might remain few cases where legitimate SA or the owner themselves actually go crazy (we saw recently the owner of several well established competitive clubs demoting their admins and closing at least three teams) which cannot be prevented but those are much less common.

very true, personally I don't just promote anyone anymore just because they ask, They must earn my trust, and i no longer promote to SA, only Admins Max to avoid demotion attacks. Well i haven't experienced any bann or demotion attackes in any of the clubs i'm in or i was, but with what i here from other members, this is becoming a serious issue to many clubs.
But i do belive that most demotion attacks as due to poor decision of Admins and SA promotion.

I see. I do not share the same policy, but yours is a very good way to stay safe. My friend used to have about 20 sa, 30 admins, and 50 coords, then the da (demotion attack) happened and I'm the sole staff member.

yep, usually something like that happens when a owner isn't careful about that
