Ok Zhane's Group is a place to make new friends.
Within this group we can set up tournaments and personal challenges.
I hope that our motto "A group for all people" would stick forever and I hope to get 25 people before my next birthday.

I think that's an excellent idea Rael. I predict alot of chess.coms social interaction future will be based in groups. I have this feeling that groups are currently under utilised and are the most fertile ground for expansion. Alot of people really love the forums but have not yet discovered the more niche orientated interaction avaliable in groups. I think alot depends on group managers like us to create and maintain attractive environments for our constituients. And to help increase awareness of the existance of groups (like Rael is suggesting) amoung the general public.
Another cool thing we could do is organise a votechess tournament or ladder. There are plenty of groups who would have a number of participants in vote chess games/matches against other groups.
There is so much that will become possible once this chess.com group feature grows considerably. I would love to see all of the experienced managers here create National groups for their home nations. Think how cool it would be to have an international vote chess or regular chess tournament and/or ladder.
But once again I must say I really like Raels idea of increasing awareness of groups by creating a thread about it in the fourms. I don't think I will add the Kiwis group that I manage because it is too specific. Heh, I might ask Rael or silentfilmstar13 to create the blurb about Open Discussion group because I know they would do a better job than me .
Hey guys, I had a great idea. I reflected on the fact that, truth be told, none of our groups are in cometition, they just cater to different interests, and really, I'm a member of like 5 groups myself, SO
Here's my idea - I want to create a thread, with all of your help, of course, which would be one epic "group" thread, whereby we appeal to people that don't check the groups link ever. Look - rather than advertise all of our groups seperately, let's make a really cool thread whereby we introduce our group and give a blurb to what it is about.
Now, I don't want to do this for every group on the site - just the really pertinent ones.
I'm imagining a thread that is like this... (and yeah, I'm summarizing and being a tad silly just to give you the jist):
Hey everyone on chess.com, did you know your chess.com experience can be even better by joining in one of these groups? We have a lot of interesting niche gatherings you might want to be a part of, for instance:
The Dream Team
run by: Dalmatinac
Overall idea: yaddy yaddy
etc
All you need to do is post a 3-6 sentence blurb about what your group is about in this thread and I'll include you, okay? I'll cook this puppy up, and hopefully get all of us new members!!!
