I think you began to lose any control when you didn't immediately play 3.h4. This would have neutralized his kingside attack. KIA players sometimes play this later, but your black moved it out of order and you have to be ready for that. I am not an expert on the KIA, but remember, it hurts black just as much as it does white to play h4 or h5.

kcsmith169, thanks for the analysis and very fine suggestions! I get so zoned in on playing KIA that I want to play the standard opening moves routinely. Not always a good idea, apparently! You're right that Black had me on the defensive from the start. Gotta do better! I've recently joined the Reti group, so I see the merits of your urging to play c4. Need to look into that further. Thanks again!
