Banned accounts are still able to play? (blitz)

I just had a similar thing happen. I am playing a daily game and my opponent’s account was closed for fair play, yet I was still able to make my move. I assumed it would auto-resign since the account is closed

That certainly looks like you were playing a banned user. I'm not entirely sure how getting banned actually works, so I don't know if this could be an intended feature. It probably isn't and you might get your points refunded over this. You will have to wait for a moderator to notice this. In the meantime, I would suggest changing the title of this post from "A very weird bug" to something more eye catching, like: "Banned Account Still Able to Play?!". This will increase your chances that someone important will look at it.

Daily games on closed accounts have to time out. They don't end when the account is closed.

Is there a reason for this? I don’t have a problem waiting, but afaik an account closed for fair play can’t be reopened, so why isn’t set up to just resign?

It's always possible for a closed account to be reopened. Some closure types are less likely but it's possible.

It allows the chance that a successful closure appeal is granted and doesn't end games automatically until time otherwise.

Is there anyway it could be an unbanned person trolling by adding the banned symbol as their username flourish and adding the banned for fairplay text to their profile text?

It's possible the kick process that happen when an account is banned was lagging.

If it's a bug, then it's a good bug, because if I appeal a decision to close my account and win, I want at least the games I'd still be eligible to continue to remain in progress.

I play some dude and they resigned in move 2, although it's arena, you have to play 10 moves before you can resign

I mean the fact it's showing closed and doesn't appear to actually be closed, not the daily games still active. I believe that's normal.
