3.h3? better here Dave is d4, i liked your agressive f4 move but i think against such a passive defense like the phillador you can be much more agressive earlier.

I had considered d4 Darren, it was 50-50 on the night, but I much prefer playing the opening I played. I feel I have better control as my opponant restricts their play. D4 opens it up more for white, but it makes it a little more complicated to analyse

Also, I have a much better attack on the king side, but either way the opening Philip played suited the way I play. 

I had a similar situation in my game were my opponant lined up against my h6 pawn and I was sure he would take it and it effected what i played it turns out in analysis that if he had taken it I would have been a lot better but the problem is finding the accurate defense over the board but I would guess you would be better too here if had taken on h3 ill have a look now.

yup, looks good. I never really calculated what would have happened had he played Bxh3, I just saw Nh2, Bxh3, g2xB, Qxh3, Qf3 which looked okay to me. Playing Nh2 also allowed me to play f4 which is what I was aiming for

Darren, I think in the 3d4 line I would prefer on move 6 developing the queens bishop to f4 or g5 rather than Bc4 for several reasons. Black is pretty much obliged to castle kingside, white can keep his options open for a while yet, also 6 Bc4 allows the old chessnut Nxe4 and Pd5 unless white replies Bxf7.

I agree those are also viable options my line was really just an illustration as an alternative, the main move is actually 6.Be2 by white also you will see Nxe4 doesnt work in this line due to Qh5

I thought the answer to 7 Qh5 would be pg6

I think black is in serious trouble after Qd5

I would prefer white's position, but if 6.....O-O , black is threatening Nxe4.
