Good question.
I would be interested in an answer.
the description of what opening is being played has also disappeared from the practice computer games. I wonder why.
Basically, we need to do some work on Votechess which we plan to do. Its using older code than most of the rest of the site. We updated the code for the ECO which is the opening display you are referring to. When we did that we had to remove that bit from Explorer because the code there is too hold to support the new ECO code. Once we update explorer which will happen sometime this year it'll be fixed.
I am sorry guys
why can't they put a pop up comment where the button used to be in the meantime, so that people are sure of the rules.....

I have just found that thread.
I knew about the problem before, I had also contacted support, got there an explanation for a workaround, which - well, works, even if it is not comfortable, and risky as well (because, if you do things you are used to do withe the explorer, like going back in the line, you may start an engine analysis of your ongoing VC game unvoluntarily ...) I have shared that workaround in a lot of clubs, so I am a bit surprised that this was not presented here - even though a staff member (gladly) already confirmed this issue here and explained the background of it ...
But beside that, one thing really shocks me (and I had not heard that before): This situation may last for the whole (or at least a big part) of this year??
Sorry, guys, I am not sure if a "sorry guys" is enough for that ...
VC games are an important feature of this site. The explorer is an important feature of VC games. All premium members pay for that ... (basic members don't get it, if I am correct ...).
So what about reducing the membership fee until this not entirely unimportant function works again?? Or giving at least a month or two of paid membership for free?? No, I am not begging for charity ... But the much I appreciate the openess in the above comment, the much I am puzzled by the carelessness towards the (paying) community ... (which shows already in the fact that there was no official information at all, if there had not been this comment here and my mail to support).
Why can't you leave "well enough" alone?
EXACTLY!!
If the code for votechess is the oldest, it is probably the best! Because your new updates are horrible, chess.com!

That is a great point. The changes didn't have to occur during vote chess games, they could have somehow let us finish a game with a heads up to what would be happening.
We have this issue to deal with in these most important VC games I have ever been in, tourney games against one of the best VC teams on this site, and we have to deal with it at move 2. and 3.
Uncool.
Usually in VC matches we can compare our position with the opening explorer by clicking on the opening analysis description.
This function is gone, why?
