Black must wait for white to jump out of the window!!! EHHH. This opening is to slow for me.
adavnteges and disavanteges of the french defense
I'm not sure the opening was played completely accurately. As black, most GM's prefer to play c5 as the counter to e5. Then after c3 (Nf3!? PxP and the attack centers on e5 with Nc5 Ne7-g6 Qc7 and even your f6 move if you can't win it) Nc6 Nf3 both Qb6 Bd7 and now f6 are playable and fun. Check out chess.com's opening book on the French advanced for some ideas.
At any rate, in the position you cited, black's doing fine I think. Sure, he might not have a winning combination, but he's created an interesting back and forth game. I might proceed as follows: Pxc4 Bxc4 Pxe5 Pxe5 and now both Qc7 and 0-0-0 are worth considering (you either castle opposite wings and throw your pawns at them with Nh6 to follow or you keep the pressure on the pawns...in this case, e5). Another way to go would be to play Pxc4 (I think this needs to happen before black initiates anything else just because Pxd5 looks like it weakens black position) Bxc4 (or pawn takes) and then Pxd4 NxP (preserving the bishop pair) NxN BxN Bc5 and a double edged fun game commences. Black will try to prove that the e6 f6 (after Pxgxf6) rock pawns are an asset and can produce a passed pawn in the center during the endgame while white will try to argue that black's king position is weakened and therefore go for an attack of some kind most likely.
In my point of view this advance variation of the French shown by Srevlide has been in crisis for a while: 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4,c3 Nc6 5.Nf3 Qb6 6.a3 and now instead of 6...Nge7: 6...c4!, with the idea of ...Na5-b3. Of course White can play 7.Nbd2 but having played that for a time as White, I can tell you that Black has all the fun. It's hard to achieve anything on the K-side for White. I'm considering to get back to 3.Nc3.
black at the moment has the advantage, but has no good moves...
the french defense is my faroite opening, but i often end up lacking good moves, at a sort of stand off to see who takes a risk first. it also helps put me up in the endgame.. check it out!
