Another variant: Planet board variant: Pieces can loop at any wall, pawns moves differentily and have different promotion area. Whites promotion: f7 g7 f6 g6. Blacks promotion: b2 b3 c2 c3. I dont know how the pawns would move yet

How does the loop work: Example the rook in a1 can go to g1

Nice one. Beautiful. The natural motion for the pawns is straight outwards. For instance, the pawn on a2 can go  to h2, the pawn on f8 can go to f1, and so on.

The pawn captures moves are the black bishops and the non-capture moves are the knights, is that how you described the pawn moves? I didnt understood it very well.

Haha, we are on totally different pages. Your idea is the pawns promoting on some sort of zig-zagging path, my idea is the pawns going straight line and promoting 4 squares from starting position. Step by step, one step at a time.

I think that the pawns shouldnt really capture on the same range that could non-capture move, if you know what I mean.

I had an idea about a variant including a fairy piece that would protect all pieces around it from capture (except the king of course). The piece could not move and its position would be chosen by the players at the beginning of the game in their camps (line 1, 2, 3 and 4 for white and 5, 6, 7 and 8 for black). And this piece cannot be captured
What do you think of this ?

I like it, but I think it should be able to be captured

May I request any sort of support for developers to be able to code their own variants and port them to the website? I have a lot of experience with code and I would love to code some original variants, but there is zero support for developers to do so.

yep, I agree. I see it as the only hope really (having been a volunteer myself). I am working on letting in people who'd like to contribute.

What about the ancient "grant acedrex" or "grande acedrex"?

I haven´t played, but it looks way more enjoyable than xatranj, and at least as good as Courier chess.

I have a new idea to "save" the chess. It is called "FlagChess":

-Standard rules, standard piece types, standard board, standard starting position
BUT:
-The starting positions of the Kings are also winning positions for the opponent Kings, if they are taken (flagged) by the Kings.

I hope it gives less draws and more dynamic endgames, and more equal chances for white and black to win.

I love automate chess, I just wish we could customize the point values based on their location. It does seem silly that a pawn or a knight in on like A1 is worth as much as one on D2.

How about a chess where you can place more than one piece per square. Actually, any amount of your own pieces per any given square of the board. This rule however should not be used lightly. Better be some concrete and immediate advantage in doing so, because when the opponent captures in one square is capturing all the pieces of that square. And when threatens one square, you can only move one piece at a time. Possibly can´t save them all and something´s gotta give.

The exiting piece defends the remaining piece, but there is still potential for new tactics. +1

New Variant Idea: Chessers. Like Checkers where the goal is to capture all of the pieces. The opposite of giveaway. Not sure how this doesn't exist.

Why is it that the elephants in Courier Chess sometimes look like elephants and sometimes look like mini-bishops?

The alfil/elephant has 2 designs: an actual elephant, and the mini-bishop (a bishop with its base removed). The actual elephant is made for Chaturanga (probably not for Courier), maybe the code is a bit messed up for that piece.

mini bishop is already alfil

i have an idea.

you can capture your own pieces, but doing so, will create an explosion of 2 suares in every range. kills all pieces including YOUR pieces. if king is in it's range, if will count as checkmate.

if YOUR king is in the range,it will count as "suicide".

and in the game, only the nuke idea above will work only 20+ moves.

1-10 will be "develop phase"  you cant capture, but if you moved a capturing move, yhe pieces will be flattened in the same square. you can capture the piece in your suare, but it will not move.  kings can move in to check in this phase, including casling TROUGH check.

11- 15 will be a giveaway and fog of war, king cannot move and you will only see squares you can capture to and only move to the sqare you captured to.  capturing is compusory, check and no piece can defend=checkmate. pawns will be all petrified in this phase (cannot capture and move) but will be UN-petrified in the next phrase.

16-end moves will be fog of war, pieces can now move and capture. pawns will now be placed randomly on the map (excluding 4 center quares)    KOTH will activate in this last phrase.

there will be 4 zombie queens placed in the center. their first 2 moves  it will be immute, next, it will be capturable. who captures all 4 queens wins. if one is captured by enemy, yo uwill not win.
