Agnostics vs. Atheists

My head is reeling with all this information. Who needs formal education when he/she can just become a member of chess.com and join The Godless group?

Hello I am new to the forum.

I'm an atheist, or an agnostic atheist to use Stego's logic.

I find all religions to be contrived however I am confortable with the agnostic position, pantheism, and deism.

My wife has some friends who are wiccan, pagan, new age etc.  I find it somewhat reassuring that they are not Biblical literalists yet think that their belief system is still kind of strange.  However I do respect the fact that these religions/belief systems are decentralized which I think makes them somewhat less dangerous to society as a whole.

Well, well, well! That was interesting, Bill_5666. One of my three children and his wife are Wiccans. The one thing I love about their religion (little as I understand it) is its respect for nature. It could be said, perhaps, that nature is their God. My biggest contact with things Wiccan was attending their wedding (or handfasting, as they call it). We guests dressed in Renaissance costumes (my husband was King Henry VIII and I was one of his wives). That was so much fun!!!!! The wedding was held outdoors and we happened to have a gorgeously cool day at the end of a horrible heat wave. At any rate, we were all lined up just outside a circle formed with flowers -- only the initiated were allowed inside this holy circle. The bride and groom entered barefooted and looked so sweet and innocent. There were four altars set up, each in honor of a different form of nature (do I remember them? wind, sun, earth, rain? No, that doesn't sound right. Whatever!) and in front of each one of the priests would in turn make his supplication. It was a wedding to remember. There was even the jumping over the broom (and I've forgotten what that symbolized) (you can be sure no one is going to hire me any time soon to be a reporter!)

Anyway, it was refreshing just to hear the word Wiccan in your post above, Bill.

Now, why don't I feel the same revulsion and distaste for Wiccans that I do for all other organized religions? Mind you, I don't believe in any of it -- but it doesn't fill me with dread the way other religions do.
