This is helpful but the latest version of the diagram tool is a bit different, isn't it?

My method is to paste the game FEN into ChessCat and work-out my variations. Then I copy the pgn from ChessCat and paste the pgn into the diagram tool.

ChessCat is a very nice (and old) pgn reader which is a great analysis tool.

However, some people report difficulty installing it on their PC.

When the diagram tool first opens the options are listed on the right.

Having already copied the PGN to your clipboard you would then select [Load PGN]

Paste your PGN into the box and click the [Load] button.

Yes, I figured that part out happy.png

But, how do you make corrections...... or alternate lines ???   Do you click on say move 34 and then type your opinion  c7 would be better here than BxB  etc. ???

Can you do a PGN of one of your own games ???

I use ChessCat. It is a very nice pgn viewer, but it is old and may not install on your PC.

With ChessCat it is very easy to make a pgn of your own game and make alternate lines and insert comments. Then when you have it completed you simply copy the pgn in ChessCat and paste it into the chess.com diagram tool.

You can do all those things with the chess.com diagram tool but it is a lot of work and it's easy to go wrong..

Thanks for these instructions.   Are the shortcuts (i.e. control c copy, control v paste etc. )  the same for an IMac as for PC?

Hmm, I forget my iPad is broke now surprise.png

I believe that on a Mac, you click apple +, instead of control +?

My Mac has no apple but a control button

Thanks to those who posted! I have a friend who want to learn how to insert diagrams using his IMac.  I have never used one so I need to find out if there were differences.

Mac, use command or apple button:

  • Command-X: Cut the selected item and copy it to the Clipboard.
  • Command-C: Copy the selected item to the Clipboard. This also works for files in the Finder.
  • Command-V: Paste the contents of the Clipboard into the current document or app. This also works for files in the Finder
