the only variants with considerable advantage (that chess.com has implemented) for one side are Crazyhouse and 3-check. But no one knows enough theory in order to exploit that.

Determining the playoff participants by zhouse, koth, fr and 3-check but then playing the playoffs with team variants is a bad idea.

Also: I personally really don't like team variants because they depend much more on luck rather than skill.

I respect your opinion, but could you please elaborate on why exactly this is a bad idea?

The skills needed in order to qualify for the playoffs aren't needed in the playoffs. The playoffs need to be played with the same variants as the regular season.

Well, my reasoning is that variants as a whole should be considered as one broad category. Using your logic, we should have a separate NSPCL for KOTH, CrazyHouse, etc. By combining multiple variants, the league is saying that the winning team will be most well-rounded in their variant skill.

we should do that. Individual swiss for each Variant maybe? Each player can chose to play in 2 out of 4 events. That way we dont get so swamped

You could make separate leagues but if one makes a variant league, the variants that are played in the regular season need to be featured the same way in the playoffs. Considering variants as one broad category is obviously not a good idea because being good at KotH and being good at bughouse have nothing to do with each other. And you don't find out which team is the most well-rounded if you play some variants during the regular season and some during the playoffs.

I actually don't get your comment: We both agree that it doesn't make sense to play different variants in the playoffs. Whether or not more variants should be played, is a separate issue. The variants played just need to be consistent within one season.

Ok, fair point. I’m inclined to agree.

Making seperate leagues? It wil decrease the number of members.

Yes, and no one is actually suggesting it.

Okay so over all?

Does everyone like the style of the league in S1 or do you want to change it?

Would you prefer if we had conferences and divisions like NSPCL? or something else...

maybe it could be a swiss without playoffs?

That isn't the way of the NSPCL.

Pika's suggested format is not an NSPCL-style format with divisions and playoffs.

The same format as the last season would be nice.
