Macherano tacled-in Robben saving argentina from a fatal goal in the last minutes of the game from a killing shot from Robben. 999 defenders would have failed but one out of a thousand was Macherano who did the perfect unfaulted tackle-in of all times and then he also made the most amazing declaration " I tore my arse to make that match saving tackle against Arjen Robben in the semi finalSurprisedLaughingCool

The white minidress worn by the model in the famous 1970s "Tennis Girl" poster has been sold for £15,500 at auction.

The price was almost eight times the £2,000 estimate set by Fieldings Auctioneers in Stourbridge, which offered the dress along with the tennis racquet featured in the image and two copies of the poster.

The picture featured 18-year-old Fiona Butler and was taken at the University of Birmingham by her boyfriend at the time, Martin Elliott. She was not paid for her modelling.

Elliott, who died in 2010, sold the image licence for the 1977 Athena poster, which sold more than 2m copies.

The identity of the woman in the picture had been unknown until Fiona Butler – now Fiona Walker, 55 – came forward in 2011. "It never ceases to make me smile when I see it," she said at the time.

The dress was made by Butler's friend Carol Knots. "As I played tennis at the local club in Stourbridge, I bought a 'Simplicity' pattern and made my own dress, complete with lace trim. Fiona was a friend and one day asked if she could borrow my dress and racquet," she said before the auction.

"When she returned them, she gave me a big box of chocolates as a thank you. I've had the dress tucked away in a cupboard for all those years. It's a little piece of tennis history and I hope someone might find it an interesting novelty item to buy," she said.

Elliott, whose reputation as a photographer was established by the global success of the picture, split with his girlfriend three years after it was shot.   Chris Johnston - The Guardian

but the most amazing display of courage comes back from 1946 by a marathon man...  Stylianos Kyriakides

A man who decided to run in the Boston Marathon after 6 years of starvation and without any training all this time, proved that the soul rules and running arm to arm with his best friend Kelly, he won the Boston marathon crashing the record having wings on his heels

26 July   Pyrros Dimas lifts Greece high again winning the Gold medal in Atlanta 1996  after Catalonia's Gold in olympics 1992Smile

Cool when he shouted  "Gia tin Ellada!"  before he lifts the weight!  BBC athletic reporters have said that if he didn't spend all that energy at that moment he should surely have lifted more than the world record!

https://youtu.be/aK7EZqOnmVI

Surprised But Pyrros is the greatest athlete in weight-lifting three times Olympic Champion Barcelona - Atlanta - Sydney

he is from Northern Epirus and bears the heavy name of the ancient invincible King of the Greek Kigdom of Epirus PyrrhosWink

Likewise the courageous Pyrrhos Dimas is the King of Greek Weightlifting and thrice Olympic Champion. recently he has agreed to work for the U.S.A.  weightlifting team after 2017

12 minutes standing ovation in Athens, never happenned again in Olympic games!Cool

A friend sent me an e-mail 3 weeks ago

in which she is asking me why I believe it was an unfair decision to ban all together the whole of the Russian team from Olympics

And I answered to her

"Why do you think is fair?

it is like you are telling me that if 13 people in a chess team are cheating then it will be fair if chess, com close the accounts of all the members of the teamTongue Out

for me every athlete is standing alone, every athlete is a personal hero and noone in the world has the right, in the name of any politics, to forbid a hero to run in the Olympic games which is a higher idea far beyond any politics, a dream for every athlete

Even if there are 95 cheaters out of a hundrent i will still stand by these 5 athletes even if is only one i will stand by the last one to protect his spirit

This is my logic and this will never change, it's a part of my character

And I ask everyone, can you imagine if Usain Bolt was a Russian athlete? what if that happenned? then Olympic Games would have lost an immortal hero and much of their Glory.

In memory of the unfair ban of Russian athletes from the Rio Olympics.

Good luck to all Russian athletes who will participate in the Games!

Dear friends! THANK YOU very-very much to all of you (but saying thank you is so little) for such an immense support that you give me! Oh my God, I could not even think that all of YOU are going through all this injustice with me. Thank you for your initiatives, faith and trust. Today at the reception with President I couldn’t hold back my tears because of offence; sometimes strong women also break down and get emotional. Oh well, what doesn’t kill us, makes us even stronger. Thank you from all my heart and soul! As I was told: “Yelena, you have already won because our hearts are with you”. It is truly more significant than any victory and medal. Thank you very much for recognition!!! P.S.: Tomorrow it will be finally clear whether I have a chance to perform in Rio or not. Hope lives for 24 more hours.😌

The Legendary Usain Bolt and the Jamaican sprinters!Smile

Why do Jamaicans run so fast?Cool

Is it Cocoanut like harry Bellafonte suggests or is it something more?Smile

Something Imbued In Their Very nature

An article in the Jamaica Gleaner dated July 8, 2008 disclosed the preliminary findings of a joint study by the University of Glasgow and University of the West Indies.  According to the article more than 200 Jamaican athletes were tested and found to possess the Actinen component (ACTN3) in their fast-twitch muscle fibres – the rapidly contracting muscle fibres that enable sprinters to run quickly.

The early data is that for the fast-twitch fibres in the muscles, there is a special component called the Actinen A, of which the gene was identified in the fast-twitch fibres found in 70 per cent of the athletes from Jamaica compared to 30 per cent of Australian athletes.

However, an article posted on the Genetic Future blog states that ‘An excessive emphasis on ACTN3 as a major explanation for Jamaican success does a grave disservice to the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors required for top-level athletic performance’.  To this end, there is still great disagreement in the scientific community regarding the ACTN3 postulation.

Also, there is something called, in Jamaican parlance, a cock bottom.  The shape of the backbone and the hip is angled this way with the pelvis, and the front muscles afford high knee lift as opposed to when the back is straighter.  Many believe that this contributes to the extra power Jamaicans exert when they drive their legs down; this is also caused by genetics.

AggressionUndecided

It has been a long time stereotype that Jamaicans are aggressive.  However, to some extent, this may account for their blinding speed.  In the animal kingdom, the fastest animals are the ones that are most aggressive.  It stands to reason then, that there is a positive correlation between speed and aggression in a gene pool.

I believe the reggae music more than agressionSmileCool

The Food

Professor Errol Morrison, president of the University of Technology, Jamaica, having done extensive studies on ‘why Jamaicans run so fast’ has purported that yams and green bananas are partially responsible.

According to Professor Morrison, yam produces a substance called hypo steroids which acts as a stimulus, while green banana produces phytate, which is four times the concentration in the yellow yams and replenishes the energy supply.  He adds "This is a hypothesis.  This is not gospel and fixed in stone.  It is a hypothesis based on a lot of biochemical research and anatomical research and I will put it down as succinctly as this: Genetics, dietetics and athletics."
