"Le Bateau ivre" is a 100-line verse-poem written in 1871 by Arthur Rimbaud. The poem describes the drifting and sinking of a boat lost at sea in a fragmented first-person narrative saturated with vivid imagery and symbolism. As I was floating down unconcerned Rivers I no longer felt myself steered by the haulers: Gaudy Redskins had taken them for targets Nailing them naked to coloured stakes. I cared nothing for all my crews, Carrying Flemish wheat or English cottons. When, along with my haulers those uproars were done with The Rivers let me sail downstream where I pleased. Into the ferocious tide-rips Last winter, more absorbed than the minds of children, I ran! And the unmoored Peninsulas Never endured more triumphant clamourings The storm made bliss of my sea-borne awakenings. Lighter than a cork, I danced on the waves Which men call eternal rollers of victims, For ten nights, without once missing the foolish eye of the harbor lights! Sweeter than the flesh of sour apples to children, The green water penetrated my pinewood hull And washed me clean of the bluish wine-stains and the splashes of vomit, Carring away both rudder and anchor. And from that time on I bathed in the Poem Of the Sea, star-infused and churned into milk, Devouring the green azures; where, entranced in pallid flotsam, A dreaming drowned man sometimes goes down; Where, suddenly dyeing the bluenesses, deliriums And slow rhythms under the gleams of the daylight, Stronger than alcohol, vaster than music Ferment the bitter rednesses of love! I have come to know the skies splitting with lightnings, and the waterspouts And the breakers and currents; I know the evening, And Dawn rising up like a flock of doves, And sometimes I have seen what men have imagined they saw! I have seen the low-hanging sun speckled with mystic horrors. Lighting up long violet coagulations, Like the performers in very-antique dramas Waves rolling back into the distances their shiverings of venetian blinds! I have dreamed of the green night of the dazzled snows The kiss rising slowly to the eyes of the seas, The circulation of undreamed-of saps, And the yellow-blue awakenings of singing phosphorus! I have followed, for whole months on end, the swells Battering the reefs like hysterical herds of cows, Never dreaming that the luminous feet of the Marys Could force back the muzzles of snorting Oceans! I have struck, do you realize, incredible Floridas Where mingle with flowers the eyes of panthers In human skins! Rainbows stretched like bridles Under the seas' horizon, to glaucous herds! I have seen the enormous swamps seething, traps Where a whole leviathan rots in the reeds! Downfalls of waters in the midst of the calm And distances cataracting down into abysses! Glaciers, suns of silver, waves of pearl, skies of red-hot coals! Hideous wrecks at the bottom of brown gulfs Where the giant snakes devoured by vermin Fall from the twisted trees with black odours! I should have liked to show to children those dolphins Of the blue wave, those golden, those singing fishes. - Foam of flowers rocked my driftings And at times ineffable winds would lend me wings. Sometimes, a martyr weary of poles and zones, The sea whose sobs sweetened my rollings Lifted its shadow-flowers with their yellow sucking disks toward me And I hung there like a kneeling woman... Almost an island, tossing on my beaches the brawls And droppings of pale-eyed, clamouring birds, And I was scudding along when across my frayed cordage Drowned men sank backwards into sleep! But now I, a boat lost under the hair of coves, Hurled by the hurricane into the birdless ether, I, whose wreck, dead-drunk and sodden with water, neither Monitor nor Hanse ships would have fished up; Free, smoking, risen from violet fogs, I who bored through the wall of the reddening sky Which bears a sweetmeat good poets find delicious, Lichens of sunlight [mixed] with azure snot, Who ran, speckled with lunula of electricity, A crazy plank, with black sea-horses for escort, When Julys were crushing with cudgel blows Skies of ultramarine into burning funnels; I who trembled, to feel at fifty leagues' distance The groans of Behemoth's rutting, and of the dense Maelstroms Eternal spinner of blue immobilities I long for Europe with it's aged old parapets! I have seen archipelagos of stars! and islands Whose delirious skies are open to sailor: - Do you sleep, are you exiled in those bottomless nights, Million golden birds, O Life Force of the future? - But, truly, I have wept too much! The Dawns are heartbreaking. Every moon is atrocious and every sun bitter: Sharp love has swollen me up with heady langours. O let my keel split! O let me sink to the bottom! If there is one water in Europe I want, it is the Black cold pool where into the scented twilight A child squatting full of sadness, launches A boat as fragile as a butterfly in May. I can no more, bathed in your langours, O waves, Sail in the wake of the carriers of cottons, Nor undergo the pride of the flags and pennants, Nor pull past the horrible eyes of the hulks.(transl.Oliver Bernard)

I started to create this forum with Bob Dylan's covers one night suddenly feeling like "I want to listen only to Bob Dylan songs tonight" and I gathered immediately many songs, I couldn't stop listening, finally when i discovered a fantastic cover of "Tomorrow is a long time" from a man who listened from Bob Dylan first only with 100 viewsI and only at that moment I was finally satisfied and i decided to close with it... and then, it is so amazing, after an hour or two I read accidentally that this day I opened this forum it was Bob Dylan's birthday ! and I realised why subconsiously i decided to stop with that rare cover of "Tomorrow is a long time" which touched me so much... and the next days i continued to add songs .

This forum is created for any member who wants to keep his personal statistics of his performance in the matches of the team Anyone who is interested can copy the table below and edit it with his own username in this forum in order to be able to re-edit on his comment everytime he wants to change his numbers The table is this below: (you just replace the letters of Bellerophontis with your username after pasting the table and before you edit your comment) Then you can add your chromatic line WWDLWDL'W'W etc beside your username. In this way, everyone is able to keep his own statistical record by re-editing on his comment Bellerophontis score 0 max.unbeaten streak 0 matches Standard Games 0 - 0 - 0 ratio: 0 /0 winning percentage 0% Chess 960 games 0 - 0 - 0 Example Username WWDDD'LLWWW'LDWD'W'D'WW'WLWWWWDDDL''LW''WW' The line of the results of every member will look like this containing all the results in the order of the team matches as they are finishing. Reading this chromatic line everyone will be able to see and remember what his results were with great accuracy W D green for matches the player remains undefeated W D blue color for the games of high importance or official 1 point for every green win W (either it is 2-0 or1.5-0.5) and half point for each draw D (1-1) in every team match W - blue Win counts double, ie. 2 points (in a team match which declared of high importance) W ' - win with one ton mean that victory is achieved against players with a rating of 1800 or stronger players generally with much higher rating (bonus +0.5 for the ton) W '' victory with 2 tons if both two reasons above coexist (bonus +1 from the 2 tons) ... Each ton either in a draw or in victory counts half a point L red for the lost games ( L orange for a defeat that the player has the right to drop one time in a year to achieve better annual unbeaten streak) L'' red with 2 tones for a defeat with 2 time-outs L' with one tone for defeat with one timeout and there never can be turned into orange because they have time-out the sum of red tonnes gives the timeouts of the player, and there is penalty -1 point for each timeout i.e. for each red ton '' D' draw with tone when the player plays with much stronger opponents counts one point for the score (half for the draw and half for teh ton) while D' with red ton do when the player time-outed in one game every draw either green or orange counts a half point in the score D orange is a draw when both games are both agreed to draw D blue draw counts double, ie. 1 point (in a team match which declared of high importance 'the official) for 3 concecutive wins www bonus +1, for 4 WWWW concecutive wins +1.5 5 concecutive wins wwwww bonus +2 , 6 conc. wins + 2.5 7 concecutive wins wwwwwww bonus +3 etc Score is an indicative figure for player's total offer in the team matches including the penalty for timeouts and the different bonus, and is calculated from the chromatic results line as follows (1 point for a win, a half for a draw, apply all bonus also for winning streaks, Finally add half for each green tone and subtract one point for each red tone, ie. [green tones / 2 - red tones] Ratio: is the fraction with denominator the number of games and numerator the sum of the winning points without any penalties or bonus ( i.e. 1 for a win and 0.5 for a draw) - this ratio gives the number of the Winning percentage L Yellow defeat means that his opponent subsequently found cheater, his account closed and the loss doesn't count in the statistics In our example the player who has this chromatic line of results has run a maximum unbeaten streak of 15 matches (that is 7 plus 8 with an orange loss in the middle) WWDDD'LLWWW'LD'WDW'DW'WLWWW'WWDDDL''LW''WW' has score 30 which is the sum of 14 green wins + 7 points from three official wins and one blue draw in official, 4 points from the bonus in consecutive wins, 4 more points from 8 green or orange draws and another 4 points bonus of 8 tonnes with difficult opponents and finally we deduct 3 points for 3 timeouts, penalty from the red tons * P.S. Please read the TMCL rules.  They have been much improved over the last 10 years.  TMCL now offers several leagues that we may want to play more standard format chess matches. TMCL: Description, Rules & Regulations Tournament Format Team Requirements Setting up Matches Removal of Players Closure of Player Accounts Standards of Behavior Participation in TMCL Player Eligibility Addenda 1. Tournament Format: All teams taking part in a Team Match Championship League (TMCL) tournament will be placed into separate divisions (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo) according to their playing strength, Alpha being the strongest. All TMCL tournaments are based on the Round-Robin pairing system in which each team taking part plays every other team within its group, across a number of rounds (these are usually a month apart). To limit the maximum number of matches any team may be required to play at the same time, the number of teams within a group is not allowed to exceed ten. Should a division contain more than ten teams, it will be split into a number of sub-divisions (six maximum), each one being made up of no more than six teams (spare positions being filled with 'Byes'), the winning teams from each sub-division going forward to play each other in a second stage Round-Robin (the 'Playoffs'). The number of matches a team will play in any second stage will depend on the number of sub-divisions as follows:- For divisions having only 2 sub-divisions, the winners from each one will play a single match to decide the overall first (Gold) & second (Silver) placed teams in the division but the two highest scoring runners-up will be invited to play a match for third place (Bronze) For divisions having 3 or 4 sub-divisions, the winners from each sub-div. will play each other in a 3 round Round Robin to decide the first 3 places For divisions having 5 or 6 sub-divisions, the winners from each sub-div. will play each other in a 5 round Round Robin to decide the first 3 places In the case of divisions which are sub-divided, a 'cut-off' point (15 weeks from the start date of Round 5) will be applied when all matches within the division are assessed to decide their results, unfinished games treated as null & void & the existing score (adjusted for any closed accounts:fair play as detailed below) used to determine the match result with winning teams going forward to stage 2 (the Playoffs). Any tied positions in rankings of teams are decided by our tie-break system. Once these stage 1 results have been posted an appeal period of at least three days will allow team admins to lodge any objections. Details of how a new tournament is to run will be posted some time before it begins and precise details of how to set up match challenges will be provided in the draw for each new round. The Schedule for the season will give further details of when all rounds are intended to begin along with team pairings for each round. * Results of matches are collated & adjusted by the TMCL admins on a 'best effort' basis: That's to say we can't guarantee to complete this process by a particular time but the results will be as accurate as we can make them. However, match data provided by chess.com is not guaranteed to be entirely up to date, so all team admins have responsibility to double-check the results we publish. We endeavour to be fair & even-handed & treat all teams equally, however, our final decision will be binding. 2. Team Requirements: All clubs that register with TMCL in order to take part in our tournaments must satisfy the following conditions:- have been in existence for at least 12 months (this may be relaxed by a few weeks at the discretion of the admins) have a minimum of 25 players Each team must be represented in TMCL by at least one responsible admin (preferably an SA), although we recommend a minimum of two for safety & they must:- be at least sixteen years of age have an account that's existed for at least six months join the TMCL league in order to receive our alerts for new rounds etc. have news/announcements/forum alerts from TMCL enabled for as long as their teams are involved in a tournament take equal responsibility with other team admins to ensure that their matches are opened, by either sending appropriate challenges or accepting them ensure that they build their teams in each round so as to reach the minimum size for their division confirm that they accept these conditions & post a comment to that effect in the confirmation thread at the beginning of the season 3. Setting up Matches: Details of the draws for each round, giving all the match setup requirements, will be posted on (or slightly before) the scheduled draw dates. Team match challenges should then be sent except when a team has a 'Bye' for the round, in which case no action is required & the team automatically receives a point. It is the responsibility of the team accepting a match challenge to ensure the match setup is correct! If a team is due to play a match but fails to take any action by the required time (we allow 120 hours from the posting of the draw), it will forfeit the round & receive a 'strike', the match point being awarded to the opponent (a 'Bye'). If both teams due to play a match fail to act, they will each receive a strike. Should one team issue a valid challenge, posting evidence of this in the draw thread, that team will be awarded a Bye for the round if its opponent fails to accept. * Only one strike is permitted in a TMCL season. A second strike results in the disqualification of the team and Byes are awarded to all their opponents in the same stage. Any club that has been disabled is immediately disqualified. Each team must reach the minimum number of players required for a match to begin and if this has not been met by the specified match start date and time, that team will be in default (receiving a strike) & the opponent will be awarded the match win. If both teams fail to meet the minimum player requirement for the match, they will each receive a strike. All matches must start at the specified time, as given in the setup instructions for the round. Under no circumstances should admins lock their teams. It may be possible, under exceptional circumstances, to start a match early but only by arrangement with the TMCL admins & with the agreement of the opponent team. Match manipulation of any kind is not tolerated and should it occur, we will act if we're satisfied that this has taken place. This includes the following:- Abuse of vacation time by players in matches having very close scores in order to affect the result at the cut-off point Players attempting to get around the Minimum Games requirement by doing the bare minimum in their qualifying Daily games and resigning or timing out in only a few moves etc. If the league admins are satisfied that such behaviour has taken place, we may treat the player as if they'd been disqualified and award both games to the opponent. In extreme cases we may disqualify the team concerned altogether. 4. Removal of Players: (i) With the exception of those having excessive timeout rates (see ii below), no player may be removed or withdraw themselves from a team roster. Any team demonstrated to have behaved in this way & failing to provide a satisfactory explanation within two weeks, will suffer a penalty of four points, plus two points per permanently removed player, added to their opponent's final score. Please note: The purpose of the above rule is to deter match manipulation by the removal of players who are deemed likely to lose their games. The TMCL admins will judge such incidents on a case by case basis & be sympathetic to teams that can show good reasons for removal. (ii) The ONLY exception to (i) is that teams may remove players with a timeout percentage of 15% or greater in the last 90 days from their roster and post a comment to that effect in the relevant divisional thread, giving the name & time-out rate of the player (this is not required where lists of such players have already been posted). 5. Closure of Player Accounts: Be warned that the TMCL competition is severe on cheating [1][2]. Match scores will be finalised after taking into consideration account closures of members due to fair play violation (Closed: Fair Play), i.e. cheating. In such cases we award any points won by the cheating player to their opponent & add a penalty of 2 points to the opponent's team score. If both accounts are closed (Fair Play) on the same board, their game points are ignored. Penalty calculations will be finalized at the cut-off date. For divisions playing only a single round-robin, we will continue to adjust match results until we declare the season to be at an end. 6. Standards of Behavior in TMCL: Disrespectful behavior, wherever it happens, will not be tolerated and will lead to the perpetrators being warned once and then banned from the Team Match Championship League group. Special behavior note: Abuse of any member of the TMCL admin team is grounds for immediate expulsion from the Team Match Championship League group without warning. 7. Participation: Entry into any TMCL tournament is at the discretion of the league admins & all teams must meet the conditions laid down in section 2. Any team or its admins may be removed from TMCL if they fail to demonstrate acceptable standards of fair play in matches or treat others with disrespect. New (June/24): If a team has acquired a total of two or more strikes across all TMCL tournaments within the previous 12 months, it will be excluded from joining any new tournaments until no more than one strike remains. 8. Player eligibility: Participating club members, including their representative admins, are free to play for any number of their teams in the TMCL 2024 season. Notes: [1] Any player with a Closed: Fair Play icon placed by their name is considered to be a cheat. No discussion will be entered into regarding cheating. [2] If you think an opponent player is cheating or being abusive, please report them to the site. Do not complain in the TMCL group notes or forums. Addenda: Round Robin Tie-Break System: We resolve ties between first placed teams by applying tie-breaks in the following order:- 1st Tie-Break: Sonneborn-Berger Score (see article). A team's tie-break (Sonneborn-Berger) score is calculated by adding the sum of the conventional scores of the teams it has defeated to half the sum of the conventional scores of those it has drawn against. 2nd Tie-Break: Average Win Percentage (excluding any defaults and byes). Example calculation: If a team wins a match 70-30 then: Win Percentage = 100 * (70/(70+30)) = 70%The Average Win Percentage is then the sum of the Win Percentages for all matches divided by the number of matches (excluding any byes or wins by default from the calculation). This tiebreak method accounts for TMCL matches being of a non standard size. 3rd Tie-Break: Winner of Head-To-Head matchup. The result(s) of the match(es) in the RR between the tied teams is used to determine the winner: One point for a win & half a point for a draw. 4th Tie-Break: Highest winning board in Head-To-Head matchup. The highest winning board is calculated as follows: Match: Team A vs. Team B (overall match is drawn 3.0 all) Board 1: Player_A1 1.0 vs. Player_B1 1.0Board 2: Player_A2 1.5 vs. Player_B2 0.5 → Team A wins tiebreak.Board 3: Player_A3 0.5 vs. Player_B3 1.5 (Go to Top) stephen_33  0  #2 I've tidied up our league Rules and Regulations and made them much more generic since we're now running a mix of different tournaments with various draw and start dates. Might have missed one or two things, so if anything isn't clear or omitted altogether, please post below......
Get inspired from today's date and write a story All members are mostly welcome to add in the forums 6th June 2014 70 years ago the Normandy landings D-Day took placeBernard Jordan, an 89-year-old D-Day veteran, was reportedly told by staff at the Pines nursing home in Furze Hill, also in England, that he couldn't travel to Normandy to be with his comrades for the 70th anniversary of the famous invasion. On Thursday, Jordan went missing. The nursing home called the police, informing them that the veteran hadn’t been seen since leaving at around 10:30 a.m. that morning. (the Daily Mail reports) So where did he go? The Royal Navy veteran put on his war medals under a blue raincoat and met his former comrades on a coach. opened on October 16, 1983 at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 362 performances. It was directed by Michael Cacoyannis and choreographed by Graciela Daniele opened with the music of Mikis Theodorakis. The cast included Anthony Quinn and Lila Kedrova (who had both starred in the film version, the latter winning an Oscar for her performance). It is based on the novel Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis. Zorbas was a real-life person and friend of Kazantzakis, who taught him how to love life and not to fear death. “Look, one day I had gone to a little village. An old grandfather of ninety was busy planting an almond tree. ‘What, grandfather!’ I exclaimed. ‘Planting an almond tree?’ And he, bent as he was, turned around and said: ‘My son, I carry on as if I should never die.’ I replied: ‘And I carry on as if I was going to die any minute.’ “Act as if death did not exist, and act with death in mind at every moment" "…I look on death every moment and I’m not afraid; yet I never say I like it. No, I don’t like it at all! Am I not free? I refuse to sign up!” Those who met him speak of a person free of social conventions, illiterate yet ingenious, and profoundly philosophical, which is why he touched Kazantzakis’ soul. The fictional Zorba embodies the very essence of life in all its manifestations. His main traits are an indomitable life force and intuition. A life force that propels him forward, enabling him to overcome listlessness and inertia, with a deep-running instinct that guides him and keeps him in immediate contact with the essence of things. As to the major philosophical questions that preoccupy the narrator, through plain thinking and the experience of a tumultuous life, Zorba shows him that the answers - if they do exist - are not to be found in books, but in life itself, as long at it is lived passionately, free of hopes and expectations. "I don't hope anything, I don't fear anything, I'm free" Nikos Kazantzakis
