Attack on Pearl Harbor
The Japanese failed with there attack on Pearl harbor.
First of all --- The US Air craft carriers were not at Pearl harbor. So the Japanese could not take out all of them.
Having already cracked the Japanese naval code, did FDR and his closest cabinet members, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, know in advance that the attack on Pearl Harbor was coming? One theory has it that they knew, but rather than alert the commanders, Short and Kimmel, at Pearl, FDR and the others were agreed that the impact on the American people would be infinitely greater if the attack came as a "sneak attack", which would also avoid compromising the fact that we had cracked the enemy's naval code. After all, it was only those little "yellow" Orientals, and we'd defeat them handily in any event, even if the attack was a surprise, so the thinking went (according to the theory). What are others' thoughts upon this rather interesting and provocative theory?
