Auto Start

This is used when you want a match to start on a specific date.  Chess.com has a help topic how to set up a tournament and I have screenshot the part about auto start.Admin wants us to set up matches properly and it's inappropriate to go against the TD

The site software can not be trusted. Changing the proforma will result in problems. Will wait then be ready to say told you so.

Yeah, so sorry to reiterate my comment from the notes: prefer not to use the feature. If you forget, probably it will not matter anyway. I know the site is buggy from time to time, but you would be unlucky I think if this flag stopped behaving as it currently does.

So many are saying that it doesn't matter if auto start is on/off but seem to totally miss the point that you are talking about site software. The safe answer is keep it to off and my daughter (@Libragirl94) was completely within her rights to refuse a challenge that was not in accordance how the TD (@croftangry) had asked matches to be set up. Sean should not then go against one of his own team and in my opinion was very poor of him to do so.

@Taurusmale67, I see Sean more like my line manager and I am happy to alter the instructions going forward.

What you have said about site safety may be correct but it does not seem to be an issue right now and the majority of players who have expressed an opinion do not mind.

@Croftangry20 Why has auto start not been an issue? Maybe cause it has been set to OFF. It has worked with that setting for many years yet Sean decides he wants it ON. Both @Libragirl94 & I have asked the question why are we changing what has worked yet still not go an answer which doesn't surprise me one bit. I have made this point and if admins wants it set to ON then go ahead however don't be surprised when things go wrong and I will post three simple words "Told you so"

I have been an admin on this site run clubs, tournaments etc and being a Super Admin does mean you need sometimes to make difficult decision which may be unpopular however I've always tried to speak to admins beforehand if I could. What Sean did IN MY OPINION was poor and only he knows why he did it.

Nobody has commanded admins to send challenges with auto-start on. That is untrue. What has been said is it makes no difference. Crystal balls aside, that is true too.

Exactly nobody has asked for it to be set to ON Sean decided himself why is a mystery and one which will not be solved.

Maybe you can ask why Sean took on himself to change a setting which was against those we were asked to set up in the match. It has worked for years why change it?

I know the site is oftentimes quite buggy. That said, autostart only kicks in when both teams have reached the maximum number. For example 1-5 players, the match starts when both teams have 5 players.

In this instance, AFAIK, if it's accidentally set to on but there's no maximum number of boards (for example 7+) then it doesn't start until the date that the match is set to, x date and 23.59 time.

As for what was said in the notes, it was posted that the setting should be set to OFF but that if someone accidentally switched it to on, then the match challenge can still be accepted since, as described above, the auto start won't happen until the date and time set in the challenge because there's never any maximum boards. They're all x number +.

I agree with Missy.

@Libragirl94, Greetings! I ask Sean many things. The content of private conversations should be private. I think the change makes sense.

@Taurusmale67, it seems like you have a grievance against Sean regardless of the auto-start issue. I think that we are all lucky to have someone who has volunteered so much time and effort to help run this online organisation. I really do not think there is an appetite for some hotly debated AGM on every single thing the UKCCC does in running its competitions. This is not Chess Scotland or the English Chess Federation.
