You actually can change the setting for following something
Bottom right of the window for posting there is the option to "Follow" or not the whole thread
I mean like it does that once I post even when I don't do anything so its kind of annoying to have to hit the thing every time I post
Not sure about that. As soon as you post into a thread, the "Follow" button is checked automatically and you get a message each time someone answers. This is how I was alerted you responded

you can set it so that you don't automatically follow stuff you post on.

Whenever I post on any kind of thread or join a club, all of the nonfiction settings are set on and you automatically follow the thread. I think we should have a settling that lets you change these factors.
