That’s cool but Then people can just make a draw by not moving any of their pawns so it’s impossible to checkmate

It is possible to checkmate. You can use your knight if the enemy king is boxed in a spot where they have no where to go, since they can't capture, you win.

You can occupy both such squares

would be interesting with more different kings that can be checkmated (any double check would also be a checkmate as you cant avoid both check),

then, pawn cant promote if there is 1 in each file, so i think it would be better like 4 pawn to each player, all in differents files so promotion is teorically possible,

may be played with just 1 of each piece (1 queen, 1 knight, 1 rook, 1 bishop), and 4 kings, the 4 pieces placed in the second raw near the pawns, or else would be too easy to check mate with a queen
