Buddy not cooperating :-(

Sort:
Skeftomilos

I moved my queen to l6, and my "best friend", yellow, stopped for a while to think, and then just castled!

null

I still won the game!

Renegade_Yoda

For what its worth I would have checkmated green for ya if I was Yellow there (probably happy.png

I would have taken the mate 100%. It's hard to count on someone doing what you want though. That is what makes moves like Ql6 so exciting with the risk/reward scenario.

BabYagun

Maybe he/she did not find Bg12 x m6 move.

Moreover, look at that player nickname, it is RTn2016. The players usually write their year of birth in their nickname. (For example, well known here Wraku89 is a top player (and classic chess GM) born in 1989.) So, @Skeftomilos, you just played with a 1 year old person. Maybe 1 year and 10 months. What did you expect?!

Martin0

Clearly a 1 year old... tongue.png

Just to make your wound worse, your "best friend" checkmated you in our game.

I think yellow missed the mate, nothing more than that. It’s hard to see yellow not taking the opportunity to get 20 points just for the loss of a bishop if he knew it was there.

Skeftomilos

Playing too aggressively is great fun, but comes with a cost! happy.png

Martin0

Sometimes being overly aggressive can work. happy.png Especially if the player in front of the one your attacking don't care about helping his friend. Some blue players would probably participate in attacking green rather than attack the aggressor (red) which I did.

If anyone is wondering I lined up my queen and bishop and played Qxi2+ earlier that game (similar to scholars mate) which ended up with me trading my 1 point queen for reds 9 point queen. If other players did not participate in the attack I would also lose my bishop.

Skeftomilos

Yea, you intervened at the right moment, with great effect! If you were focused on your development we could have killed green, and then come after you. happy.png

EyeKnows

it might be better to let the red Q get gobbled up by green. weakens red, and blue and green should next be attacking the weaker opponent so yellow (well developed and castled already) will be/could be freer to do whatever he wants.

Martin0

I just played a painful game where my friend did not cooperate.

Try 1:

Come on yellow, you have mate in 1 with Ql7! (he plays h9)

Try 2:

null

Come on yellow, you have 2 options to mate now. Either Nk8 or Nk10. Guess what he plays?

null

Well at least he tried...

Ok, last try yellow

Moral lesson: don't trust Yellow! happy.png

Martin0

Yeah, I thought 1700 players could be trusted, but apparently not. That is the first time where I have lost 3 queens in one game this way though grin.png

It is a wrong assumption. You cannot judge by rating. There are useless (and/or selfish) 1900+ players and helpful 1250+ players.

P.S. Congrats Martin0, we have a similar rating now. I guess you are in Top 30 now.

Martin0

To be more clear I didn't assume he would make the move, but rather was taking a risk and hoped he would find it and play it. He didn't have to lose any material for making the checkmate in any of the cases, so I thought it was very likely anyone that found the move would play it. Rating is far from everything, but a higher rating usually means the player has a better understanding of the game and is better at finding good moves. When I made the third queen sac though, I may have been led by my emotions and almost not caring if he would make the move.

I have had very good results recently. My current rating is 1986, so I am very close to the top 10. Probably Top 15. happy.png

How did blue get 201 points

Martin0

Blue got that many points with some silly double checks in the endgame. He could easily checkmate me and green, but instead kept doing double checks.

Renegade_Yoda

those are great posts and examples. I think there still is a lot of learning in 4 player and understanding if its really a checkmate or did I miss something and I just wasted my queen... what clocks running pressure pressure... play it safe. Point is as you post these or make another learning section on this type and people get games under their belt it will become more consistent. *If I keep just stating the obvious feel free to call me Captain Obvious happy.png  *Note Love the 1 year joke above haha

Yes, 1986 should be in Top 15. My rating is 1995 now, it is number 9 in Top 10.

By the way. The learning section is very useful, but unfortunately not all the players read it. Many people do not know about this forum.

There also was a funny case in a recent game. My color was blue. Green player (opposite to me) did not write anything in chat, even "hi". Then he placed his knight on a square in front of my pawn and blocked the pawn, so I could not get the 2nd queen. I asked him about that and got a message in Spanish happy.png Well, he definitely did not read Martin0's suggestions and did not know that he is my "friend". So, I played a 1 vs 3 game.

These will continue to happen until the game becomes very popular and people write the lessons in Spanish, Russian, Chinese etc.
