BUG - Game dropping in middle for no reason

I saw it posted but just got a game dropped we were about 10-15 moves into it no one took any pieces all 0 score. Game just ended Poof and we all ended up with 10 points and it said no one won.

I heard a bleep right before it stopped the same one that say someone would hear after a person resigned but did not see anything that would indicate someone did and there was no reason for anyone to do so at that time no real advantage.

How long did the game go without a capture? Were there any repetitions?

Avatar of battleMind24

Oh nevermind just saw you said 10-15 moves, but my repetition question still stands

Avatar of Renegade_Yoda

no repetitions and just happened again

Avatar of battleMind24

Just saw your game, no one captured a piece in 50 moves

I'm guessing it is a 50 move rule bug. The 50 move rule should not just be captures, but also pawn moves and it should be all players making 50 moves, not 50 moves in total (12+12+13+13 with every player).

This is assuming the rule should be similar to classical chess (which would make sense)

Avatar of battleMind24

Perhaps it's best if we change it to 100 ply?

Avatar of Renegade_Yoda

both times I made 13 moves.. so if your going off of everyone 13x4 yes your over 50 moves and just starting the game... so your saying someone does not capture a piece by there 12 move the whole game is over?

I thought the 50 move rule was for the typical end game where people don't have enough to win with etc.?

Avatar of battleMind24

Not sure pawn moves should count in this variant @Martin0?

Avatar of Renegade_Yoda

I would consider 50 per person (and have it enabled when there down to 2 people?)

Avatar of Renegade_Yoda

Battle what are we trying to accomplish with this rule? standard 50 rule move or something else a twist?

Avatar of battleMind24

We were trying to promote activity in the game at the early stages and remove endless games.

Avatar of Martin0

In classical chess the rule is there to declare a draw when no progress is being made. Pawns can't move backwards, so any pawn moves is progress.

Avatar of Renegade_Yoda

well then I think you got it right. just have an issue with the group understanding it as its a big change.

Is there a warning message that can go up saying you or another have 3 moves to capture or game will end? then 1 move warning?

Avatar of battleMind24

Okay I think for now we can avoid it with pawn moves. I'll upload that soon

Avatar of BabYagun

How about some countdown indicator?

Avatar of MGleason

Yeah, 50 moves total seems to short.  Pawn moves should definitely reset it, but I think it should be 25 moves per person rather than 50 moves total (which is a mere 12-13 moves per person).

Avatar of battleMind24

It's 100 ply now and pawn moves reset the counter

Avatar of MGleason

100 ply - that's 50 moves each in a 2-man endgame, which is probably OK.

Avatar of Martin0

100 ply with no captures or pawn moves sound ok. The only issue I have is that should be called a 100 ply rule instead of a 50 move rule and I see no reason for that distinction. I prefer the simple 50 moves rule to stay consistent with the 50 move rule in chess. Just like we wanted the same stalemate rule as in chess.
