Where is this information mentioned?

It's universal. If your opponent takes out your king, it doesn't matter if you could take out your opponent's king next move. Your king got captured first.

But that literally defeats the point of check lol.
Edit: if I cannot move into check, and I cannot make any other move while in check except to take the opponent's king, then what is the point of check?

ChessMasterGS

It really doesn't, the logic is that checkmate is basically an unstoppable threat to take a king on the next move, and thus straight up capturing the king without delay is more important.

Not-A-Pro

TL;DR it does and it doesn't.
The point of check in normal chess is that if you do not move your king, the enemy will take it.

In my example, I am in theoretical check because the opponent can take my king if and only if they use the jump spell. I will call this jump check.
I then put my opponent in normal check, meaning I can take my opponent's king with or without any spells, if they do not move their king.

The game, to some extent, is able to realise that since I was in jump check first, that trumps me putting my opponent into normal check, and so they are allowed to take my king.

However, if my opponent had put me in normal check instead of jump check, I would not be able to make a move to also put their king in check, even if after that move they would be able to take my king.

Given these facts, evidently, the game recognises that since I was noob enough to "move while in check" (jump check, that is), I deserve to have my king taken even though I put my opponent in check because I didn't move my king out of check.

Now, if the game recognises jump check as check, and thus allows you to take the enemy king via the jump spell even if you are in check, then it could treat jump check as a normal check and notify you that you need to move your king out of check. Likewise, if any move you make would still result in your king being taken on the next move using the jump spell, then this would be jump checkmate.

However, this would deny players the pleasure of taking the opponent's king, which I dislike.

To conclude, I said, "that literally defeats the point of check". This statement can only be considered false if we are treating jump check as a thing (even if you can move while in jump check), in which case, the game acknowledges jump check and allows the player who issued the jump check the honor of taking the opponent's king regardless of being in check, because the opponent moved while they were in jump check.

This is fine, but the logic of this being a possibility can not be clearly deduced from the rules currently given about the game. This is my only issue with this.

Freak spell chess glitch: https://www.chess.com/variants/spell-chess/game/53582640/36/3 I checkmated my opponent, but the game didn't end. My opponent resigned. Immediately after the game ended I got a "loadPGN" error because "R" is an illegal move. I do not currently know why the bug happened or how to recreate it.

Had a similar bug in this game. After I checkmated, pieces greyed out and the end game sound played, but the game didn't end. Other player had to resign, and the only button I had available was the Draw button.

Another bug in this game. If it is not a bug please explain why.

On move 13, they play rook d1 check, and I want to freeze their bishop and take the rook, but it doesn't let me. Since the rules say that spells must be cast before making a chess move, and frozen pieces cannot check or checkmate king, and both casting the freeze spell and moving the king take place on my turn, I don't see why I can't freeze the bishop and take the rook.

when i checkmate my opponent with the help of freeze it makes the checkmate sound but does not end the game... i have to wait till his time runes out or if he resignes

Potential Spell Chess bug: You can't play en passant if you are casting a spell, but you can play en passant if you are not casting a spell. Is this a bug?

The fog variant is not working anymore after the late August update :

1) You can sometimes not see all pieces you can attack.

2) At the same time the fields on the board blink , which you are not supposed to see.

3) In the review after the game you see only 1 side at a time

4) You see the complete starting position and not only the inital position (your half of the board)

@ chessmaster: i get the feeling that variants (or all chess) is meant to play on the computer and not the mobile. I play 99% of my games on the phone because I get physical problems if I play too long on the pc. It's a pity that playing on the phone has more flaws (like I cannot chat or buttons with resign and draw are placed half under the board). But when I started FOW 2 years ago it worked fine, so it is possible. And besides: is playing on the phone not something that will be more popular in the future?

The fog of war is now MIST OF WAR. you can see all the other players moves and it you play them on a board next to you, its a normal game of chess.

Who did the beta testing? you need a better method than just releasing buggy code.

Are you talking about this game? It's telling me that red did not move

Though I have heard that there are issues with variants with zombies

thenomalnoob

Why, what? On my laptop it made the blue died

But on yours, you lost. Such a mess
