Why are we being forced to play a new 4 player chess format? before there was the possibility to choose between the two formats and "virtually nobody chose to play the new standard format" that does not tell you much?

The timeouts problem has become a serious problem with the new 4pc system. Seriously, someone with the team please address this asap. It is currently a black hole for your rating to play a rated game at this point.

4PC: I'm having issues with the board size/overlapping of everything.  Apologies if this has already been answered.

@afloreabee

Is there a way to view challenges for all variants at once

You can see ALL challenges in the main lobby ( click <- , then lobby. www.chess.com/variants/lobby). use the filters to see only what you're interested in.

Well I didn't have a problem before the merge, so something has changed. I can't be the only one with a problem and the display should work for all screen sizes. For reference I have a 13" laptop. But like I said, it was absolutely fine before the merge.

What is the definition of "high rated FFA games" ???

"High-rated FFA games are winner-takes-all format, where only 1st gains rating and 2nd-4th lose equally."

Isn't this effectively "solo" ???

My rating has increased dramatically since the change-over to "variants." -- And now, when I come-in second place, despite playing FFA, I'm losing points.

If I'd have known this beforehand, if it was articulated in the new pop-up when starting a game, I would have fought for position differently, not resigned ...

Also, what is the "deal" button? Draw? Or coordinating attacks like teams?

There are SIGNIFICANT changes. Where is there an outline of overall changes? The ability to drill down to details would be nice, too. These changes had to have been discussed among developers, and it takes time to implement these changes -- time that can be used to write-up the rationale behind them and be able to present it to players.

Username overlap should be fixed when the next update goes live.

Could you provide some more details? What browser? Does it always look like that for you or only in certain situations?

If you look at the chat, it'll say how many wins/losses 2nd place will get. Then you can plan accordingly or abort before the game starts.

I noticed that new text in the chat. It doesn't explain my first question.

What defines "high rated" ? -- How are these subjective rules implemented?

Let's compare this to: Everyone knows the rules of standard chess, how clocks work, and how ratings work. At least roughly speaking. And, at least if you do not know, you can go and look it up. Versus what has happened here with proprietary 4PC: Random changes, but no explanation of or about those changes.

There has to be detailed information about these changes, somewhere.

I had started writing a forum post with such information back when I was involved in the planning phase of it. However, that project would need to be picked up by someone else now. My explanation was thorough, yet incomplete. Many questions still remain unanswered, but again, we'd need someone who knows the system to finish it.

I'll also share the sentiment that an explanation needs to be given, and soon. Things like the new "deal" button. The only way I figured it out was through a game where all players just decided, screw it, we're gonna press it and see what happens.

After Variants updating, FFA game have problems. On every move , the screen shifts fron right to left side. Manually , needs to bring back the board to center of screen. Time loss in every move due to this , loosing immediately. Kindly keep the earlier version. In the name improvement, demonization to chess players done.

sundararajana

Please go back to old version.

Claim win button appears when going through the moves after the game has ended, even for spectators.

I think that's for analyzing purposes?
