Bug Reports

Ok, so my rating has dropped by about 80 points in the last few days because of the disconnections bug. Here is the latest one: https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/25570630/12/2

If this isn't going to be resolved, I'm gone.

Create the 2200+ queue first, then you can add a 2400+ after without getting the 'already made' notification.

Getting put into hosted games you didnt actually join sounds spooky. I have not heard of anyone else with this problem, nor experienced it myself. You sure noone hacked your computer? (I'm not being serious..).  But well, it's hard to fix if we can't reproduce, strange stuff.

@AdeptLion, @Radon, and myself have had this issue.

Reported here but was ignored : P

@spacebar sometimes when I hit refresh on the browser which has the variants page open, after it is refreshed I automatically get into a casual queue. If I cancel the queue and refresh page again, I get put into the very same queue again. Spooky indeed.

I can't play 4PC on Chrome. I've had other users say the same. It works fine on Safari but on chrome neither the clocks nor the player scores are visible as they are overdrawn by the board.

I presume it's the same issue as reported here. Could you provide more details? I cannot reproduce this UI bug on Chrome.

4PC: I'm having issues with the board size/overlapping of everything.  Apologies if this has already been answered.

Could you provide some more details? What browser? Does it always look like that for you or only in certain situations?

Yes, that's it.  My fix:  I switched to Safari.

I have another issue that doesn't seem browser dependent, and it only happens sporadically:  Occasionally there's no sound, regardless of my settings.  It seems to happen spontaneously and will last until I am out and log back in.  So I think it's at the server end.

This causes a problem in game play because of another feature/bug, namely that premoves appear to be turned on by default.

So what happens when the sound turns off is in the heat of play you misjudge when it is your turn because there is no feedback and you aren't paying attention 100% of the time.  So you try to move a piece by selecting it then clicking where you want it to go.  That sets a premove.  Then the player on your right moves and you've made that move, intentional or not -- and often it is a bad response to their move.  I've lost a few games because of this.

Thanks to whoever has fixed the usernames overlapping.

The board is now a little bit smaller, and there is empty space to the sides that could be utilised (see pic)

Before the merge it was perfect (if you can find how it was then and replicate it)

Thanks in advance

The GUI for the players in the game changed, so that might be hard to do...

I'm sorry I don't follow. Previously that filter would filter by player rating? What rating is it filtering now? I don't know what you mean by game rating.

Disregard what I said. We'll actually change this to filter by player rating happy.png

It seems that the xianqi knight moves exactly like a standard knight (at least while playing in analysis mode). I don't know whether this is intentional or not, but I thought I should post it here, just in case.

In Xiangqi (Chinese Chess), knights cannot jump over pieces, but otherwise move just like a Standard Chess knight.

Hence the name, Xiangqi Knight.

The Xiangqi horse moves the same, but cannot jump over other pieces like a knight. It can be blocked by pieces that are in the way.

Oh, and thank you for that clarification. The description in Variants says it moves one space orthogonically and one space vertically. This confused me because I didn't know about xiangqi knights.

Whoops, I meant one space diagonally.

The order of moving orthogonally and diagonally matters for the blocking. That's why it's mentioned. Compare the legal moves in these two situations:

It's probably not going to get resolved anytime soon. Everything here is completely f*ed.

When I joined this tournament, the icon on the left of the sidebar didn't show a number for how many players were in my queue.

thats not a bug lmao

I noticed a small bug in Variants where the clock skips a second when it reaches 10 seconds and begins the countdown with tenths of a second. Instead of going from 11 seconds to 10.9 (.9 not displayed), it goes from 11 seconds to 9.9.

in the racing kings variant theres a rule that if black can reach the 8th (last rank) immediately after white, its a draw. this rule however doesnt seem to be a thing in custom racing kings.

this game shouldve been draw because i can move my king to the last rank too, but instead the game just automatically ended and white won.
