I'm in the installation process as I type this. Let's hope this version actually allows me to play CC games now. Although, tactics trainer and chess videos on the iPhone make it worth the price of admission. Laughing

First bug report:

  1. I still cannot see my currnet games. I only see a list of finished games.
  2. Someone mentioned in another thread that they viewed all of their finished games and the were able to see their current games. I started viewing all of my past games and after viewing about 15 or so, I could no longer see the regular controls, but instead it was all yellow. Here's a pic:
  3. I attempted to create a game with a friend. No outgoing game is seen in my profile. I was, however, able to accept an open seek.

Same problem as last 2 versions:

I can't make a move in an online game. I can't even select a piece to move; it just stays highlighted on the last move of opposition. This I think is a pretty serious bug as it makes the game unplayable on line, for me at least!

Same as last version: If I am playing black in an online game, it always shows the game with white on bottom and I need to rotate the board. It should have my colour on the bottom of the board.

If I view an online game and press that fast-forward type button it always shows the message "Error. Invalid Game ID"

Also, I had a button showing that someone challenged me so I clicked the button thinking I would see the details (how many days per move, if it's rated their rating, etc) but it instantly accepted challenge. I think that should be adjusted so that there is at least another step to confirm accepting the invite.

This is on an iPod touch 2nd gen.

I've seen the yellow screen on Play Computer too now.  Restarting the app seems to have solved that problem, at least for the moment.

DeepGreene

I get a game-ending Alert ("Game over! Play clock has expired.") under these circumstances:

- Don't sign in.  Play against the computer as a Guest.  Edit: I have now reproduced the problem using my own account...

- Start a new game (optionally - just to confirm you are playing with unlimited time)

- Play a few moves of the opening

- Hit the "?" button to view analysis as you play

- Play a few more moves

- Hit the "?" again to turn off analysis

- (At this point, you get two clocks at the top of the screen, both showing zero time left.)

- Any attempt to move now gets the Alarm (a few times actually, since the computer usually makes a response move, ignoring the warning), and your game is prematurely over.

I haven't seen this (yet), if I'm logged in with my username.  It only seems to happen when I play as a Guest.  Edit: Scratch that.  I can reproduce the bug either way.

DeepGreene

I'm not sure if this is a bug or an enhancement request...  You decide.  Wink

If you get a Tactic wrong by making the wrong move, you get an indicator of the negative impact to your rating.

If you get a Tactic wrong by simply viewing the answer (i.e. hitting the "?" button before making your own attempt), it just says "Wrong!" but there's no visible rating adjustment.

"Guests" don't get Hints!  Ah, the privileges of membership.  Laughing

1) No improvement in Computer endgame strength.  On highest strength, "Active" behavior, computer not able to make any progress in forcing mate in KQ vs. K or KR vs. K.  (I had tried Lucena first, I guess that was a bit optimistic!)

2) I also got the yellow background playing vs. computer after editing the position 3-4 times and resuming the game.  It continued ok for me.

As with post #6, I'm not sure if this is a bug or a 'feature' (Wink).  In any case I find it very frustrating...
From the first beta-version up to and including ver. 0.026 I've been very irritated by the blue 'move confirmation' box that pops up: it visually blocks the board underneat so that most times I can't see the move I'm confirming.  I do want to be able to confirm a move, but I'd like to be able to see it before I confirm it.  Is there some setting to change this?
One option might be to make the confirmation box more transparent so you can see through it to the board underneath it.  Or, perhaps, have the confirmation box movable so that you could slide it out of the way with your finger so you can see what is underneath.
Or am I missing something obvious?  I've not seen others having problems with this, so maybe it is just me.  But I do find it frustrating enough that I find I tend not to make moves via the iPhone but just go online...  obviously not the intent.
Thanks.

Good point!  My glass is perhaps only half-full, but at least there is water in it!

You said you could see / play an open seek.  Where?  I don't see any of the games others have challenged me to on the iPhone app.  Nor do I see any alerts or indications of messages.  For a cool site like chess.com which i.m.h.o. beats the other servers because of the chess-social-networking features which I enjoy and use all the time, the lack of this on the iPhone app seems to me to be a serious limitation for it.

I had a problem viewing the current and past videos... the screen would turn a little grey... I dont know if this is a part of the new version.. installing it now.

Enormous_Gastropod

I could accept a seek that was out in the common open invites area of Chess.com. However, once accepted I could not see that game in the iPhone app just like all the others.

Charlie101

its actually loading.. and works fine.. thanks!

A minor improve to the gui for online chess can be to cut large players name in order to see the elo of the player you are playing with no mater how long his/her nickname is.

As Posted by Enormous_Gastropod , a yellow border appears around the chess board in online chess.

The problem seems to be when the phone goes into sleep mode.I was, for a time, able to recreate it every time. Now I cannot recreate the problem reliably.

When it occurs, online chess does not work, computer chess does not work, tactics trainer works, and the video function works improperly (you can select and watch a video, but the list from which you selected the video remains visible and you are unable to exit the video or select any other function on the app). The only solution to these problems appears to be to close the app and restart it.

So... do you have any large nicknames specifically in mind??? Laughing

@ playu2: Sleep wasn't involved in my experience with the bug. Sorry. =(

1. Press "Play Chess Online" and view the resulting "Current Games" screen.

2. Select one of the games requiring a move and view the resulting game screen.  The leftmost button under the game ">>" moves to the next available game.

3. However, when I reach the final game and press the ">> button, I receive a dialog box titled "Error" with a message of "Invalid Game ID."  This is repeatable regardless of which game I select first in the queue.

MINOR:

When logging in, the button changes color indicating a response, but there's no other sign of activity.  I would have expected the swirling * indicating download or net activity.  This is true as well for selecting "Play Chess Online" after logging in.

SIDE NOTE:

I can confirm the "blanking" (yellow?) of the title and button bar above and below a game.  This happens infrequently and I haven't determined a definitive sequence to make it happen, but the solution seems to be to quit the app and restart.  Merely returning to the home screen does not seem to clear it.

EXPECTATION:

I expected to see game notation on the analysis screen.
