Probably fine also.

Nobody can see a win after Kc6, we would need an engine for that.

I'll revise my statement: White has a better chance to win with Two Bishops vs Guard than Queen vs Guard.

It's probably a lot easier for the guard to hold vs a queen, yeah, assuming it's already with the king.

aronian22

I believe it's probably a draw, so that's what I'll put until further notice.

If the king strays too far, the guard could get trapped, and on it's capture, the 50 moves would reset.

Gd4

For them to reconnect in the above position, the guard would have to retreat. In the meantime, white can try to move his king around.

Bf8+ separates them nicely. White has made progress.

I can't prove a win, as I am not an engine or some russian dude who lives in the woods and calculates an endgame as their life mission. But I'm saying white can force them to separate, and that might lead to something.

There's another problem with this ending. If the guard is protected, it can let itself be attacked by the bishops.

Perhaps. Maybe we should get evert's engine on this? tongue.png

Your guard is on d4. You have to back up.

captaintugwash

lol oh yeah I'm looking at the image with it on d3

ok Bf8+ Kc6

captaintugwash

They're close enough.

captaintugwash

Can't see how your king gets past my guard.

Marks1420

I'm going to assume you want  to move between c6 b6 and b5

captaintugwash

I'd have played Ge5 to stop your king gaining the opposition, but I can still hold this so whatever.

Gc5

Marks1420

Initial idea to Bf7-e8

I actually don't know if you can. The idea was to keep the king out with the guard, and now it's behind the guard.
