Nice, I could easily see and calculate forcing lines like this until Kxd6, and then to me, it was too complicated. I could not keep count of which squares were free and which were not. Of course, if I think like 10 minutes, I may be able to calculate, but I do not have confidence in myself and not play it if my opponent is higher rated than me
In this article, I will cover one of my recent over-the-board games and how I was able to calculate a 10+ move tactic straight out of the opening. I had sensed a tactic in the position due to the open f-file and I have never seen the move h3 before. Generally, when you see a non-book move then it is very likely that it isn't a great move.
I had never seen this h3 move so I began to wonder why it wasn't in any of my preparation or lines. I started to look for concrete tactics and came across the idea above. After much calculation, I could find the winning variation.
My opponent saw the idea of Bf5 and decided to play Kc3, however due to the powerful bishop on g7 the game was quickly over.
