It is was stated before it was a bug.
You don't capture your own pieces. When you capture an enemy piece you put it onto your side not theirs. This problem was corrected before on the actual website, It was correct on the app however it has since reverted back.

this is a screen grab of the chess.com app the captured pieces are displayed on the wrong side. As i say you don't capture your own pieces.

I did remove the app on both the Fire HD and Android phone and re-download it. no change

It was always like that on Android. We did change this behavior recently on web, and for Android it will be changed in version 4 that is coming really soon.

For what its worth I don't know if it would help you in the fix for version 4 however it was displaying correctly for a period of time like last month the pieces were on the correct side. It started about two weeks after the correction was made on the web. Then it reverted back to how it was at the end of April. I know there is no connection between the web and the Android app but that was the time frame where it was displaying correctly - hope the information helps
On the app for chess.com for Android the Captured pieces have reverted back to the incorrect display.
Black pieces show up under the black player instead of white and vice versa.
It is the same on the Fire Tablet and a Samsung phone. I submitted a bug report from the devices however I am not positive it took a screen grab or not. Which is why I am posting I didn't know if the bug report could be checked to see if it included a screenshot so I know If I should post one here.
