Worked fine for me. I think the trick is that you need to click on whatever square is two spaces away from the king, which is often NOT the square that the king will end up on. Hope that helps. ![]()
Castling in 960 vote chess discussion diagrams
The trick in 960 for castling is to first find the color the king is normally on. From there you need to have all pieces in between moved out of the castle line. Then drag the king and drop on the castle and it will castle 0-0- 0 or 0-0. The key is to have the right pieces moved out and always drop the king on the castle where you want to go.
ok guys. Try loading this FEN into a diagram and castling with white immediately (as happened in the game). Then you can tell me how you did it! (Note picking up the king and dropping it on any nearby squares does not work)
rn1qb1kr/1pppppbp/p5p1/8/2QPP3/8/PPP2PPP/RNN1B1KR w HAha - 0 6
[It seems a little ironic that the FEN has "HAha" in it!]
No, looks as if the analysis board doesn't recognize 960 games from straight FENs. (If I'm not missing something.)
I'll look into it and pass it on. Thanks!
As a temporary workaround, it's possible to add some more text and paste it as a PGN instead (in which case it is recognized as a 960 game):
[FEN "rn1qb1kr/1pppppbp/p5p1/8/2QPP3/8/PPP2PPP/RNN1B1KR w HAha - 0 6"]
[SetUp "1"]
[Variant "Chess960"]
(Actually, you don't need the SetUp-line in there.)
For me castling worked just fine after using the PGN above when I moved the king on top of the rook:
I have inferred what the difference is here.
You loaded the PGN and then immediately castled, which worked. I saved the diagram, then edited it again, when it doesn't (but Kf1 works fine).
To fix the bug it will be necessary to stop this unwanted difference in behaviour occurring.
I normally use Safari 10 on a Mac, but I tried it on Chrome on Windows as well, where it worked the same.
I made a recording (apologies for having Swedish as my system language, but I just copied the PGN above and pasted it):
Yes, I explained how I too can do it here using a procedure that is not available in a vote chess discussion, the same one you presumably used.
Note that this is connected with a bug that if you insert a position using a FEN in a vote chess discussion, it needs to be saved before adding any more moves. At least, this is true all the time on my machine. This is why I save the position in the discussion, but after this editing the position does not allow castling.
This should help identification of the underlying problem.
I recall that this was broken, and I still can't do in in a specific example. Is there some clever trick, or does it still need fixing?
This makes discussion very awkward when castling is imminent.
